High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash: Man Collides with State Troopers, K9 in the Back

A high-speed chase involving the Ohio State Highway Patrol ended in a crash late last night. Troopers attempted to stop a blue Hyundai, but the driver fled, speeding through traffic and even driving on the sidewalk in an attempt to escape. A helicopter was deployed to track the suspect's movements from above.

During the pursuit, two Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, along with K9 Hunter, were in a patrol car searching for the driver when the suspect lost control and crashed into the front of their vehicle. The driver was quickly taken into custody.

Both troopers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries for evaluation and are expected to recover. K9 Hunter was not injured in the crash and has already returned to duty.

The Officer Hits the Trooper, Flipping the Car with K9 Inside.

The second video has been released showing the sheriff's deputy striking the State Trooper last week, causing the SUV to flip with both the K9 and the trooper inside.

The incident began around 4 p.m. when Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers spotted a white Volkswagen SUV with stolen plates on South Arlington Street near Forbes Street in Akron. When troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit.

The chase proceeded onto Interstate 76 eastbound, with the SUV leading troopers into Portage County. A sheriff’s deputy joined the pursuit to assist. The SUV made an abrupt maneuver onto the State Route 43 exit ramp, cutting through a gore area before re-entering I-76. During this moment, the sheriff’s deputy and a state trooper collided, resulting in the termination of the chase.

The sheriff’s deputy received minor injuries and was treated at the scene, while the state trooper was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His K-9 partner, Titus, who was also in the vehicle, was taken to a veterinarian clinic as a precaution. The name of the trooper has not yet been released.

Investigators are currently reviewing leads concerning the suspected stolen SUV, and the case remains under active investigation.

Epic Police Pursuit: Senior Citizen on a Lawn Mower!

An 83-year-old township man is facing several felony charges after allegedly leading police on a chase while riding a lawn mower earlier this week.

The man has been charged with felonious assault, failure to comply with an officer’s order or signal, resisting arrest, and obstructing official business. Additionally, he faces misdemeanor charges of failure to comply, criminal trespass, driving under suspension, and operating a vehicle at a slow speed, impeding traffic.

According to police, the man refused to pull over at Southway Street SW and Genoa Street SW on Wednesday, choosing to flee while riding a lawn mower instead. He was already wanted for trespassing on a neighbor's yard Monday on Navarre Road SW with his lawn mower. This incident follows an earlier charge in August when he was accused of criminal trespass for riding his lawn mower onto another neighbor's property on Wynbrook Road SW and attempting to mow the lawn without the owner's consent, despite previous police warnings. The man pleaded guilty in Massillon Municipal Court, resulting in a $50 fine and a 70-day jail sentence.

He later admitted to the police that he had hidden the mower in the woods and walked home that day. The mower was subsequently found and sent to the impound lot.
