Fire destroyed a Texas couple's truck and tow camper Saturday afternoon on westbound I-80 at MileMarker 85. It was especially tragic since this was the couple's ONLY home and they'd been traveling the country for three years. Some of their belongings were saved, but the loss - estimated by Wallace Fire Chief Chris Backos - was $250,000.
UPDATE: 7:45pm. Talking with Sgt. Hollenbeck at the La Salle County Sheriff's office, the search for a man who fled a traffic stop this morning near La Salle has been stopped. It was Sgt. Hollenbeck's understanding that the search would not resume Sunday unless someone calls in a sighting prompting police to investigate.
Earlier, we learned the man police sought is Austin Moon of Littleton, Colorado. He was arrested back in 2022 in connection with a fire in Wheat Ridge, northwest of Denver. The La Salle County Sheriff's Office would not confirm the man's identity. Moon was believed to be unarmed.
La Salle County Sheriff described the man they sought as a white male, 5' 10", 140 lbs with a moon shaped tattoo on his left cheek. He was wearing a white shirt, light color jeans. He was last seen in the 4am hour Saturday near I-80 and East 5th road (Troy Grove Blacktop). If you believe you have seen him, call 911.

LaSalle County Sheriff Adam Diss reported this afternoon that 40-year old Sarah Petritsch - who was reported missing on June 26 - has been found safe Sunday and is with family. There is no foul play or criminal activitity suspected in this incident.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 8:15 for western Putnam County and southwestern Bureau County.
Hail and wind damage is possible with these storms. Locations in the warning include: Hennepin; Tiskilwa; Bureau Junction; Putnam; and Lake Thunderbird.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until midnight for Bureau, La Salle, and Putnam counties.
Thunderstorms are likely to produce torrential rain along with the possibility of damaging winds and hail.
A Flood Watch is also in effect until 7a Wednesday for the same counties.
