One of the best parts of a Delmarva summer has got to be peaches! Fresh picked from a local orchard or picked up at your weekly farmer's market, there is nothing quite like the juicy flavor of a perfectly ripened peach. Check out our peach recipe box, highlighted by this one from contributor Kate Livie in our Summer issue accompanied by her story on the faschinating period in Delmarva history when peaches ruled the landscape.

Decadent, lush, in the bowl or on a cone, peach ice cream is the timeless taste of Delmarva’s summer.

“I have put everything into this tiny 50-seat strip mall restaurant—just to be able to do this on my own terms,” says Chef Matt Kern, owner with wife Karen of One Coastal in Fenwick Island, Delaware. A commitment to sourcing locally and mentoring talent, along with skillful preparation and plating, led to his being honored as a 2024 James Beard finalist for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic. Contributors Pam George and Deny Howeth visit with Kern and pastry chef Skylar Crowley in our Summer cover story. PLUS, get Sky's recipe for the cover dessert!

Matt Kern’s 2012 Toyota Tundra is a familiar sight in Delmarva farms’ driveways. For instance, en route to his Fenwick Island restaurant, One Coastal, he might stop at Story Hill Farm to buy milk for his ricotta cheese. Next up is Bennett Orchards, where he might pick up blueberries and peaches,...

CLT || OUR HISTORY || You’ve probably seen the large towers along our coast. They were built during World War II to help the American Navy and Air Corps track German U-Boats along our shore. And boy were they busy! In the first half of 1942, these U-Boats sank 472 merchant ships!

To protect these ships, the US Navy established a protected area guarded by electric submarine mines along the Rehoboth shore. This gave the ships the ability to rest at night, without being attacked by U-Boats.

In this photo, you’ll see the Civil Air Patrol preparing for a patrol to assist a sunken ship right outside of the protected area.

Two Stones Pub's Mike Stiglitz has a mantra: Believe Nothing. Try Everything. That perspective has helped him build the Two Stones brand, adding 2SP Brewing, 2SP Tap House and, most recently, 2SPizza to his award-winning restaurants. For the last dozen years, Two Stones Pub has been known for their craft beers and food that goes beyond the standard gastropub fare. And they show no signs of slowing down! Read the story from contributors Pam George and Becca Mathias - Photographer in our Spring issue.

When Mike Stiglitz was a tween, he was given a steak knife and a case of green peppers to julienne. The South Jersey resident was reluctantly working at his mother’s company, Tangerine Café & Caterers, in Philadelphia. “It took me five hours because I was dillydallying and not paying attention,...

There is nothing better than a salad made with fresh lettuces, and how lucky are we that Red Acres Hydroponics knows what we like! From a multi-generation family farm in Kent County, Maryland, Bryan Williams and his family have a century of experience adapting to keep up with the times. In our Spring issue, contributor Kate Livie takes us on a tour of this legacy farm, and explores how hydroponics changed the landscape.

It’s the gray, bitter end of January when I pull up the drive to Red Acres in Kent County, Maryland, but the bright red farm outbuildings and gleaming white farmhouse are as tidy and cheerful as ever. Stepping into Bryan Williams’ hoop houses feels like transitioning from black-and-white Kansas ...

Delmarva artisan Jan Kirsh Studio is best known for her colorful larger-than-life indoor/outdoor sculptures - like these Carrots - that appear across the Eastern Shore in delightfully expected places. Now she's taking that inspiration to wearable art with a collection of jewelry that builds on her love of nature and landscapes. In our Spring issue, contributor Becca Newell takes us for a visit to Jan's studio in St. Michaels, Maryland for a look behind the scenes with this local creative force.

Peeking out of a driveway, along the secluded, spiraling backroads of Saint Michaels, Maryland, sits a three-foot-long, vibrantly red chile pepper. It’s a cheerful greeting of sorts, a bright and bold welcome to Jan Kirsh Studio. The landscape designer and sculptor has spent almost four decades re...

We were busy in the greenhouse this morning repotting basil for the May 13th plant sale. Basil is an attractive annual, about 18 inches tall, that has deep green, fairly broad leaves. It's incredibly easy to grow throughout the growing season.
