✨ Celebrating 75 Years of Gospel Heritage at Ocala Church! ✨
As we look forward to our 75th Homecoming Celebration this Friday, November 8, at 7pm, we honor the lives and legacies that built Ocala Church. One such pillar of faith is Decemia “Granny” Causseaux.
🌿 Meet Decemia Causseaux, lovingly remembered as “Granny Causseaux” and one of the original members of Ocala Church. Born on November 2, 1906, in Ellzey, Florida, Decemia spent her early years in Otter Creek, where she met and married Sim Causseaux, beginning their family and their journey in faith.
In the late 1930s, a revival led by Rev. D.L. Welch in Otter Creek ignited Decemia’s faith as she received the Holy Ghost and embraced the Acts 2:38 message. By 1948, the Causseaux family had moved to Ocala, joining a tent revival near Tuscawilla Park that laid the foundation for Ocala Church. After several years of tent meetings, her son-in-law, J.T. Bass (husband of her eldest daughter, Florice), was elected pastor, and the church soon moved into a permanent building on Ocala’s west side. Decemia’s husband, Sim, worked hand in hand with J.T. Bass on many improvements to the church facilities.
Sis. Causseaux remained a devoted pillar of Ocala Church until her passing in 1983, just before her son-in-law, Rev. J.T. Bass, transitioned leadership to her eldest grandson, Rev. Wade Bass. Her legacy of faith and dedication shines brightly as part of our church’s story.
👵 As we prepare to celebrate 75 years of faith and community this Friday, we invite you to share your memories of “Granny” Causseaux in the comments. Her story, along with so many others, is part of the heritage we honor and the future we look forward to building.
