Love myself, forgive myself, one hundred times. My therapist has told me time and time again, the voice that says “you’re trash” isn’t real. But let me tell you, when you’re reading a message that your work is ruined, you kinda lose it.

So for the fellow creatives, actually anyone going through it - Don’t justify your experience on your output. If you get the chance to live life more fully, live it out loud.

My show, “What we have, what we choose” is now up at ! This collection is made of moments I felt most connected to the places I call Home: heaven, Vallejo, Oakland.

If I’m being honest, these pictures represent moments where I was reminded why I need to exist still. Each one is a memory card with all the senses storing what they experienced that day. The smell of flowers on a cold day in San Francisco, the feeling of forced beauty in a strip mall in San Jose. The admiration of a local business that has stood through riots, fires, and a pandemic. These moments are created by us all living, breathing, hoping, trying, existing.

I’ve been talking a lot about my child hood in therapy, so scroll down for the a story. with the .

I grew up in the Country Club Crest, or just north Vallejo for the uninitiated. I bought pogs at the video store and would stop at the local precinct for water. When you were little, the cops seemed hella cool, plus my friends dad was a cop so what did I know. My step uncle got beat up on the path from Solano Jr and Mimi wrote us a note to buy her ci******es at Kings Supermarket. The Burger King got robbed, one of the neighbors bought it out and opened their own burger spot but they got robbed too. we watched it all from the yard while break dancing to 94.9 and calling dibs on which fine queen would be our wives when we got older. Life felt easy.
When I learned my uncle died of an asthma attack while in police custody, I was confused. Cops were kind people. They gave us candy on Halloween, my friends dad even picked us up and took us to Carl’s Jr. during school once! (The only time I’ve ever ridden in a cop car). But why didn’t they help my uncle? Why were they so mad at him? Why didn’t he come home?

I never stopped in that precinct again. I started taking the bus and would complain about having to go to The Crest. I still struggle with this memory anytime I go home.
