A recording studio in Oakland owned and operated by Jay and Ian Pellicci. Incredible control room.

Based around a custom Neve 53 series console, we have a variety of classic mics, outboard gear, instruments, and generally fun audio stuff. Some clients include Om, Deerhoof, The Brothers Comatose, Ben Goldberg, Geographer, The Sam Chase, Whiskerman, King Dream and Caleb Nichols.

Makin’ the sausage, which actually sounds pretty gross but I guess this is the equivalent 🤷🏻‍♀️?

Anyhow, we’re installing a new headphone system and streamlining some patch bay stuff this week. Headphone monitoring systems are super important and, once you get them going, entirely invisible and forgotten. We’re upgrading from an ancient centralized analog system to a digital personal mixer system — a HUGE improvement for us in the control room and an even bigger improvement for the musicians. It’s just a pain in the ass bc there’s no partial changeover; you have to completely redo all the headphone infrastructure.

Obviously, we think it’s worth it. And we’ve been wanting to make this switch for almost 8 years!! Very excited!

Hello? Is this thing on?... *ahem*

We're proud to announce the grand re-opening and name change of our studio in heart of Oakland, Brothers (Chinese) Recording! You may have known or heard of our studio previously as New, Improved Recording. Originally it was the demo studio of En Vogue's producers, and we'd like to think we've spruced it up a bit.

Our new name is inspired by all the great mom n' pop (Chinese) restaurants holding it down. After minimizing and downplaying our Asian-ness for most of our lives, it feels good to slap it right in the name.

We've been hooked on recording, mixing, and generally obsessing with sonics since 1995 and we hope to be here to stay.
