In 2019, after 2-3 years of design/ development meetings, and oh so much testing and prototypes, we began the installation of this project at 1100 Broadway in downtown Oakland, CA.
Daniel Winterich, the designer and artist, successfully led the project through the many tests and changes to achieve his vision.

Today I received a podcast interview that some may find interesting about how a plan like this comes to fruition and what inspires an artist in a large architectural project. I think it is always important to point out that these projects take so many talented individuals all along the way. It begins with the artist and the vision, the developer with an interest in art, all of the successful fabricators, and directly to the installation guys on the lift who take pride in their ability to make the impossible happen.

I enjoyed the podcast this morning more because while Kimberly, Nicolas and I were working the solutions and monitoring the little glitches that always happen, and Dan moved along the big picture, I didn’t always know all the little parts to this puzzle. It’s nice to reflect back on all those little parts.

Everyone did their part of the job to reach one goal.

Lenehan Glass is busy working, actually playing, with Alicia McCarthy on her commission for SFO in the International Terminal. Installation will be sometime in October so look for it when we are all able to get back to traveling!

The pros are beginning the first 4 of 45 panels. Installation began yesterday at 12th and Broadway in Oakland. It is wonderful when we get to work with such a talented group of people. It is all a collaboration of quality people working towards the same goal. .. a beautiful public art installation on a beautiful building.
