Representing your country on the international level is one of the biggest honors in football. Hearing the national anthem and knowing that an entire nation is behind you is something that few people let alone footballers get to experience. In the case of Michaela Abam and so many other footballers, she was blessed with the opportunity to represent more than one nation, as she was born in the United States to Cameroonian parents meaning she was eligible for the yanks and the Indomitable Lionesses.
Although a difficult decision at first, Michaela explains how it was because of the connection she had with her Cameroonian heritage growing up that led her to embrace her roots and play for @fecafootofficiel. Michaela may play for Cameroon but she still holds her American identity close. She put it best “I’m American, I’m Cameroonian, I’m both and I’m proud”. 🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲
Football has the power to take you places and that is something Jazmin Jackmon (@jazzynjaz) has experienced first hand. The California native made the move to Serie A in Italy last July to join
@acf_women , becoming one of the only (Black) Americans in the league. As a result Jazmin stands out both on and off the field, but she has turned this into an opportunity to further lean into her cultural identity and stay true to who she is. Jazmin is an inspiration to all ballers that are aiming to carve their own path out in football around the world.
