Just before 11:00 a.m. today, a tractor-trailer carrying a load of plywood overturned while navigating the eastbound on-ramp at the Harriman exit. Plywood was scattered across both eastbound on-ramps from northbound and southbound Highway 27, causing significant traffic disruption. Fortunately, the westbound off-ramp remained unaffected. The truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening....

An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Mindy Orlandino, the former treasurer of the Oak Ridge High School Softball Boosters. The parent-led booster club supported the school’s softball program until it was banned by the school from continuing its operations in August 2023. The investigation, which began after school officials reported questionable transactions, found that Orlandino misappropriated club funds totaling at least $1,622.07 in 2023....

Rockwood Police, along with multiple agencies, arrested a woman Saturday evening following a high-speed chase that began after she allegedly stole a vehicle near the Roane State College campus in Harriman. Harriman, TN – Anna May Nantz, 29, of Harriman, has been indicted by the Roane County Grand Jury on three counts of statutory r**e and nine counts of sexual exploitation by electronic means. Friday, November 01, 2024 NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (“TDCI”) and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (“SFMO”) proudly announce that applications will be accepted starting Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, for $10 million in grants through the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program. Created in 2019, the program earmarks monies for the purchase of firefighting equipment (other than fire trucks or vehicles) used to extinguish fires and protect the lives of firefighters, or the grants may be used to help fire departments pay or reimburse the cost share for federal grants that have already been awarded....

Eligible fire departments must hold a valid recognition from the SFMO and have a staff comprised of less than 50% full-time career firefighters.

Departments may make application for a grant via the SFMO’s grant application website. Departments who submitted applications during previous grant cycles can use their previously created credentials to log in. An application webinar for VFDs will be held Monday, November 4, 2024.

Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. CT.
