Gillian Moran-Perez was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and will graduate this year from Cal State Northridge, where she is studying English with an emphasis in creative writing in the master’s program.
Gillian has covered a wide range of topics for her campus newspaper, the Daily Sundial, and is most passionate about narrative journalism that dives into underserved communities.
She joined the Los Angeles Times en Español team as its first reporting during the summer of 2021, where she had the opportunity to write for Entertainment, Metro and Sports. Her feature "El freestyler Kenneth Zelaya asombra en Los Angeles, mientras ayuda crecer el deporte en El Salvador" generated the most traffic to the LA Times En Espanol website over the summer.

She started her journalism journey as an intern at ABC7 in LA before landing her first on-air job as prime time forecaster for Univision, Boston. She is also very passionate about educating our community about climate change and is a NASA Solar System Ambassador.

Jamie graduated from CSUN in 2016, majoring in broadcast journalism. She got her first job at the ABC station in Sioux City, IA as a multimedia journalist (MMJ).
While she was there, she also worked as a weekend anchor + producer. After two years there, she moved to Madison, WI where she was an MMJ for the CBS affiliate up until September of this year.
She now freelances and does video work for non-profits as a one-man-band, using the skills she learned as a journalist to continue her storytelling career.

Claudine Sarmiento is the weekday line producer for the KTLA 5 Morning News at 7am. She has been producing that newscast for more than 4 years, winning two Emmys for Best Regularly Scheduled Daily Morning Newscast.
Claudine transferred to Cal State Northridge where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She was hired at KTLA after graduation and has held several roles with the news station including Production Assistant, Associate Producer, and Newswriter. Today, she helps to lead a team of reporters, writers, and other news staff to broadcast the most watched daily newscast in Los Angeles.
