WAJUE WAASISI WA "CHICKENS IN THE BUS"

Mwanzoni mwa kitabu changu cha “Chickens in the Bus: More Thoughts on Cultural Differences,” nimeelezea chimbuko la hiki kitabu. Nimemtaja rafiki yangu mSomali Bashe Said k**a chanzo muhimu:

"There was another source of inspiration. In 2007, Bashe Said, a Somali friend of mine, asked me to write a column for his newspaper, the "African News Journal." I wrote "Chickens in the Bus," "Do You Have an Accent?," "It Takes a Village to Raise a Child," "African Time," and "Will I Ever be a Millionaire."

BOOK: CHICKENS IN THE BUS: MORE THOUGHTS ON CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
AUTHOR: JOSEPH MBELE
REVIEWER: MAPALO KASENSE (16 years old)
About this book:
This small and splendid book is a sequel to Africans and Americans: Embracing Cultural Differences. I, therefore, recommend reading Africans and Americans: Embracing Cultural Differences first so as to appreciate this one better.
Every chapter gives you a different perspective of life out there in America, if you’re in Africa, and out in Africa if you’re in America. It is very educational and eye opening for students studying courses in relation to culture, and also those travelling around the world.
What caught my attention?
In chapter 2: ‘Do You Have an Accent?’ the writer poses an important question, Why should someone with a proper Nigerian or Ugandan accent be pressured to speak like an American? Why should someone with a proper Jamaican or British accent be pressured to speak like an American? It is food for thought especially to Africans who go abroad and two days later, they’re already copying other people’s ways of speaking, and the western world which expects Africans to speak exactly like them.
Do I recommend?
I read every page of this book with enjoyment and I don’t t regret the time I borrowed from reading my school work. I really like everything, especially the fact that it does not diverge from what it is supplementing but rather adding more thoughts on cultural differences and at the same time addressing issues that were not addressed in the first book.
So yes, I recommend.
