A woman. A stalker. And a retired cop who doesn’t know what to do.

Since he retired, former Chicago Police Department detective Larry Klinger has gradually discovered a deep well of unprocessed grief for his late son who died at the age of six. Now 66 years old, Klinger finally realizes that he needs help to deal with a trauma that occurred nearly 40 years earlier. He joins a group of men who, like him, are struggling to deal with the death of a child.

When a murder occurs, Klinger himself becomes a suspect. What unfolds is a story of love and loss woven into a murder mystery and an examination of a key question faced by countless men today: What is a father's core duty in our complex modern world?

“A brilliant piece of work.… Ken Zurski’s great gift as a storyteller is that he presents as a chronicler of personal histories that have been muted by the veil time. Once the reader is drawn in, however, we are surrounded by the flesh and blood of his subjects, their plots and passions, their loves and losses, the very fire of their lives which leads us to a renewed but once again shocking realization that some very significant parts of everything we consider to be our unique reality has been forged by all that came before. Much of our ‘here’ stands on the foundation built by those who well preceded us and our ‘now’ is more fleeting and borrowed than we might comfortably wish to comprehend within the daily practice of our lives.… What’s fascinating about Ken’s journey is that he’s managed to merge his instinct for journalistic inquiry with the desire to tell campfire stories that have never before been told.… I didn’t want this book to end.… The irony of Unremembered is that you won’t soon forget it.” —Bill Thill, producer, director, writer & industry podcaster

Another historical reprint from Amika Press Classics. 100% of royalties will be donated to The Nature Conservancy!

Daughter of a Welsh gypsy and a crazy bee-keeper, Hazel Woodus is happiest living in her forest cottage in the remote Shropshire hills, at one with the winds and seasons, protector and friend of the wild animals she loves. But Hazel’s beauty and innocence prove irresistible to the men in her orbit. Both Jack Reddin, the local squire and Edward Marston, the young minister, surround her with tender—and ravenous—love.

Hazel’s fate unfolds as simply and relentlessly as a Greek tragedy, as a woman of nature is drawn into a world of complex passion in which she must eternally be apart.

Amika Press Classics is dedicated to publishing historic works in quality typographic reprints. With a focus on women and world culture, this series hopes to introduce contemporary readers to almost-forgotten classics.

Mary Webb (1881–1927) was an English romantic novelist of the early 20th century, whose novels were set chiefly in the Shropshire countryside and among Shropshire characters and people which she knew and loved well. Her writing is notable for its descriptions of nature and of the human heart. She had a deep sympathy for her characters and was able to see good and truth in all of them.

Webb’s writing has been compared to Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Sylvia Townsend Warner’s Lolly Willowes. Although she won the Prix Femina of La Vie Heureuse in 1926, she received little respect from the general public. It was only after her lifetime that the Prime Minister earned her posthumous success, praising her as a neglected genius at a Literary Fund dinner in 1928.
