DMRUON BOOKS is a social media hub founded by Dobuol Ruon for the purpose of promoting African Literature by publishing books and stories to which South Sudanese children can easily relate. But we must first form a community for these aspiring writers. Ruon is a strong advocate of literacy, especially among the South Sudanese children, many of who missed out and never got a chance to get lost in a
book.
“I remember as kid, I did get a chance to read,” he said “because there were no books around or people encouraging me to read.”
Ruon wishes to give other kids a chance that he never had -not just to read but to read books entertaining and applicable to these youth. Books with subject matter that is relevant their childhood experiences. Ruon is committed to writing these stories, book which according to the aspiring writer will “Entertain the book lovers, literary junkies, and adventure readers.”
The Issue…
The mass media has promoted tales of victimization in literature and film regarding Africa, in general. Such stories were important because they educated the public (West) about the tragedies of war. However, these stories relied heavily on evoking sympathy, which was an effective way to get the message out from the “stars of the conflict, the Lost Boys of Sudan.”
But he insists that no child or adult from that land really wants to relive the horrors of the past. The fact of the matter is that there not enough books, particularly fiction, written from the perspective of an African author. Whether or not you have been waiting for more books by African authors, the time is now, according to Ruon. This is the reason why this blog, Dmruon Books, was founded. His debut novel CLAY COWS, the first book in a three-book series is only the tip of the iceberg.
