Tomorrow I’m releasing the album that I made both to celebrate my dad’s life and get through his loss. I keep thinking about the word “release” because more than ever, this feels like I’m releasing/letting go of something that gives me existential butterflies.

Apparently (as I’m learning) when it comes to grief, letting go of *anything*— even our own pain— can feel like we are allowing yet another precious tether to that person dissolve before our eyes.

And while this record is certainly made of way more than sorrow (there is joy! Pondering! Confusion! Equanimity! Curiosity! Surrender!) … it still feels hard and scary to ~release~ it.

So I just want to thank each and every friend, collaborator, KS backer, Patr0n, and literally anyone at all who has been has been encouraging in any way. Every bit has helped me navigate this. I cry just about every time I think about it.

I’ll be crying over on bandcamp tonight too (though luckily it’s just a chat box situation so you won’t see that). If you haven’t seen my earlier post, we’ll be streaming the album in full before it releases tomorrow. (See my recent posts for info) Love you all 🤍

“Oh My Green is a song about the cycles of life and death, and one that leans heavily into ‘not-knowing’. For me, being with “not knowing” isn’t exactly comfortable, but as I wrote the song I used loads of imagery from nature (each verse covers a season), and that felt like a way to soften the questions that were plaguing me at the time. The “green” in the song represents my Irish dad, but also more than him, I think it represents aliveness in general.”
