July 15TH, 2024 Update

DOCI started milling last week and lost a few days due to weather and equipment issues. We believe the equipment issues have been resolved and will continue with the scarification/profile mill of State Road 3 from County Road 350 North to the north.

DOCI plans to start the resurface portion of the project, if the weather permits on July 16th. Crews will start at the US50 Bypass and work north. We ask that you avoid using State Road 3 during the paving operation, unless you live within the project or have business to conduct within the project limits. Flagger’s will be present to assist those that live within the project or have business to conduct.

For those that live within the project, we have started milling the drive way approaches and removing the overgrowth on the shoulders. Once mainline pavement is complete, the paving crew will follow being and place the mailbox approaches. The last operation will be to place shoulder stone along the entire project. This will eliminate the ridge left behind.

Please be aware of increased heavy dump truck traffic, uneven pavement, loose debris, equipment parked on the highway, no pavement markings and bumps coming on/off of the approaches.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thank you,

July 5th, 2024 Update

Dave O’Mara Contractor’s, Inc. hope you had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July holiday.

All but one section of the Cold-in place recycled pavement has cured. We expect it to be cured by the time we are allowed to return to work by INODT specifications on Monday, July 8th. On Monday, July 8th, we will start the scarification/profile milling to smooth up the recycled pavement. The plan is to start at County Road 500 North and work north. There will be a potential for uneven lanes at the centerline, loose gravel and stone may be present. There will not be any temporary pavement markings placed on the milled surface in the closure. At non work times, equipment will be left in the highway and have tubular markers placed around the equipment. Locals that live with in the error need to be alert and looking out for the equipment. There will be heavy dump truck traffic in the closure with potential long waits while they are being loaded and staged. If you do not live within the closure or do not have business to conduct in the closure it is suggested that you take another way to your destination. This will allow for the safest construction zone minimizing the possibility of an accident. Starting on Wednesday, July 10th, the driveway approaches and County Road approaches will start to be milled with an additional milling machine.

Thank you,

June 28th , 2024 Update

The Cold in place recycling portion of the project has been completed. Next week will be used for the pavement to cure. Scarification/Profile Milling will start on or after July 8th, 2024. The surface wearing course will be laid starting on or after July 15th, 2024.

Staggered Barricades have been placed at the following locations:
US 50, County Road 350, County Road 500, County Road 850, County Road 1300 S County Road 700 West.

Hard Closures are in place just south of Westport & at the Sand Creek Bridge.

We ask that you do not move barricades as they are there for the safety of the traveling public and only those that live in the area use State Road 3. This past week it was very evident that more that local residents were using the closed road. Local residents need to be aware of loose rock, uneven lanes, no pavement markings, manholes/detector housings or water valves that are protruding from the milled surface and potential bumps or dips at bridge approaches. These all can be dangerous to the traveling public, especially those on motorcycles.

During the milling and paving operation we are asking that you limit your travel within the closure area due to the amount of workers and trucks in the area. This is for the safety of our workers and the travelling public.

Any questions, please let me know.

June 21st, 2024 Update

The CIR should be completed by the end of June barring any breakdowns or weather delays. Currently the southbound lane has been completed from the County Road 500 N to Westport and the Southbound lane has been completed from Westport to County Road 850 North. State Road 3 is closed to thru traffic and only open to local residents that live in the area. Use caution for those that are traveling the road way as there is loose gravel, bumps located at each bridge approach, isolated bumps located at the end of production each day, uneven lanes with shoulder drop-offs, and no pavement markings.

After the cure period, the roadway will be milled again to obtain the correct profile and smooth out the ride.

The south end has been milled in preparation for the resurface. Use caution in this area as there are a few items that are sticking up out of the roadway.

Business’s located in the closed section are still open. They can be accessed by:

Access to GTI, Imagination Graphics, Lake Side Pizza and Tail Feathers Market can be completed by driving around staggered barricades.

Access to Majestic Electric, Jennings County Recycling Center, Jennings County Highway department would best be accessed from County Road 500 North then south on SR3.

Any questions, please contact me.
