Aches and Pains Forecast: Week of January 5, 2026... Here is this week’s aches and pains forecast, based on changes in barometric pressure. This outlook is not about high pressure versus low pressure, but rather how quickly pressure is changing, which can be a factor for some people when it comes to joint pain, sinus pressure and headaches.

Arthritis and general aches and pains
Arthritis-related discomfort and general aches tend to be more noticeable during periods of changing pressure. This week, aches and pains may run moderate to occasionally higher early in the week, before dropping to relatively lower levels later in the week as pressure becomes more stable.

Sinus pressure
Sinus pressure can be sensitive to ongoing pressure fluctuations and moisture in the air. With pressure rising and falling at times through the week, sinus pressure may be a moderate to higher issue off and on throughout much of the week, rather than limited to just one or two days.

Migraines
Migraines are often triggered by rapid weather changes. For most of the week, pressure changes are gradual, suggesting a relatively lower migraine risk. However, late in the week and into the weekend, sharper pressure changes may lead to an increased risk for migraine issues, especially during the periods highlighted in red on the forecast.

Everyone reacts differently to weather changes. This forecast highlights general patterns and is intended as a weather-based awareness tool, not a medical forecast.

Good morning, happy Monday and New Year!
1-5-2026

We are starting the first full work week of the New Year with warmer than average temperatures, dense fog, and minor precipitation possible. This is your reminder to turn your headlights on! Do not just leave your running lights on and call it good. Your headlights make a bigger/more noticeable difference AND indicate your tail lights are also on. If you just leave your running lights on your tail lights won't be lit up which, will make you less visible to others on the roads.

Visibility has been under a mile for most of the area in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa this morning. Temperatures are in the 20s and low-30s. This means that slick spots are possible as fog may be freezing fog due to the colder temperatures mixed in.

Cloudy skies will blanket the area today with a chance of a mist/drizzle possibly mixed with flurries at times or even freezing mist/drizzle at times. Precipitation will be very light and move in anytime after 3 pm this afternoon, sticking around in patches around the area into to the early overnight hours.

Precipitation will be very light and minor; however, it doesn't matter how light and minor it is, any amount of wintery weather will lead to slick conditions.

It will be advised to continue using caution through this afternoon, this evening, and tonight.

Temperatures will slowly rise into the upper-30s and low-40s by Wednesday afternoon before our next cold front moves in Thursday night bringing a small drop in temperatures for the weekend and next week and a chance of snow for Friday and Saturday morning.
