Tonight I sold the Labor Beacon Newspaper. It was bittersweet. My job on Kansas City Council has been very demanding and it has been difficult to navigate the two demands. I sold it to the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO who will continue to bring a labor perspective to the news of the day. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years and to Pat “Duke” Dujakovich for putting this deal together.

A truly remarkable man with a huge heart who cared deeply for his family and the members of his labor community,

A visitation for Kevin Joyce will be held at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, KS 66215 Tuesday, July 26, from 4-7 pm.

It is with great sadness that we share Local 1529 Representative and 19-year member Kevin Joyce passed away in a motorcycle collision last night. Kevin was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his three daughters every chance he got. Following in his father’s footsteps, Kevin became a Union Millwright in 2003 and worked in the field until he became an apprenticeship instructor in 2013. Kevin was elected a Delegate to the Regional Council in 2012 and was very active in his local, touching the lives of many Millwrights across the Kansas City area, he became a business rep in June of 2018. You will be remembered, and we are grateful for your service. Rest in peace, Brother.
