MOLD!
Always very scary when I get a moldy tape.
First clean it, one run, then I clean the cleaner and do a second run.
Then use a Mitsubishi super vhs player that is dedicated to only moldy tapes.
After I recover the recording I sometimes have to clean the vcr.
