HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM HENSON! 🥳 Every year, I celebrate my hero’s birthday with drawings, songs, silliness and (of course) puppets. 🐸

Jim Henson was born on September 24, 1936 in Greenville, Mississippi. He began developing puppets while attending high school. He created Sam and Friends while he was a freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park, a five-minute sketch-comedy puppet show that appeared on television. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in home economics, after which he produced coffee advertisements and developed some experimental films. He founded Muppets, Inc., in 1958, which became The Jim Henson Company.

Henson became famous in 1969 when he joined the children's educational television program Sesame Street where he helped to develop characters for the series. He also appeared on the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. He produced The Muppet Show in 1976, after scrapping plans for a Broadway show. He won fame for his creations, particularly Kermit the Frog, Rowlf the Dog, and Ernie, and he was involved with Sesame Street for over 20 years. During the later years of his life, he also founded the Jim Henson Foundation and Jim Henson's Creature Shop. He won the Emmy Award twice for his involvement in The Storyteller and The Jim Henson Hour.

Jim Henson died suddenly of toxic shock syndrome on May 16, 1990, at age 53, 20 hours after experiencing a medical emergency, an unexpected event that was widely lamented in the media and entertainment industry.[3][4] In the weeks following his death, he was celebrated with a wave of tributes. He was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991, and was selected to be one of the Disney Legends in 2011.

I actually had the pleasure of speaking to him on the phone. He sounded uncannily like Kermit the Frog. 🐸

I’m thrilled to be booked at the Philadelphia Folk Festival for my lucky number 7th year! I hope to see you there! 😄

Mr. David C. Perry is a multi-talented artist/musician/comedian whose "Drawings, Songs & Silliness" concerts get kids singing and dancing – and laughing their heads off. Mt. David's upbeat, interactive performances mix music and art with a healthy helping of kid-friendly comedy, featuring upbeat sing-alongs, supersized pictures (some drawn on the spot), playful
puppets and colorful props.

Originally from Canada, Mr. David C. Perry is a Norristown-based children's entertainer who has been delighting kids and families full-time for three decades at countless schools, library and community events. He has performed at the Philadelphia Folk Festival six different years and has been the perennial host of the Kids Open Stage at the PFS's Spring Thing and Fall Fling retreats.

He is a former artist-in-residence at the PleaseTouch Museum, has sung his songs live on WXPN’s Kids Corner, received
national airplay on the Dr. Demento Show, and is Co-coordinator of the Children’s Music Network (CMN) Mid-Atlantic Region. He also performs for adults in the musical duo Winchester/Perry.

In addition to music-based programs, he also draws caricatures, featuring likable likenesses of people of all ages, including their choice of theme. He also conducts Creative Cartooning Workshops for older kids, at such venues as Limerick Township’s summer camp, Bright Horizons schools and the Wissahickon Valley Library.

G’day, Mate! Thanks to Greene Towne Montessori School for always making me feel so welcome!

Recently the campers studied the land down under, Australia! We were treated to a fabulous show by our good friend Mr. David C. Perry Creative Entertainment and the toddlers made dot paintings by using circular sponges to make large dots and cotton swabs to make small dots. Each child chose a kangaroo, turtle or gecko to complete their work.
