We are so excited to announce our Fall 2024 reporter team! We are all so excited to tell stories that impact Oklahomans this semester.

⭐️ Ireland Fitzer - is a senior majoring in journalism. Her passion struck to go to D.C. through her internships at KOCO 5, and News 9 in OKC and also working at OU Nightly on campus. She hopes to learn more about how the world of politics work, and how journalists play a major role in them.

⭐️ Kevin Eagleson - is a senior pursuing degrees in journalism and political science. He has worked for OU Daily covering city news and the Enid News & Eagle as an intern reporter. Kevin is excited to cut through the rhetoric and provide clear, fact-based coverage during one of the most historic times in American politics.

⭐️ Victoria Anderson - is a Senior studying Journalism with a focus on Broadcast. She has worked in several professional newsrooms including KSWO 7 News, KOCO 5 News, and News Channel 5 Nashville. She is excited to work in D.C. during such a historic election.

Osage and Kickapoo citizen Joey Allen still recalls the stories of abuse from the days when he attended the Seneca Indian School in Wyandotte, Oklahoma.

“I talked to a girl one time, she was crying and I asked her what’s the problem. She said, ‘I was abused by one of the teachers,’” said Allen, who attended the Seneca school from 1966 to 1969.

Though the Interior department suspects the number will rise, it confirmed that 973 American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian children died at boarding schools, with 283 yet to be identified.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Congress on Wednesday, amidst protests just blocks from the Capitol.

The Oklahoma delegation attended the speech, and many spoke out in support of Netanyahu after the address.

Netanyahu also met with President Biden and Vice President Harris Thursday to discuss a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas to return hostages.

Kimberly Cheatle, the director of the Secret Service, has resigned Tuesday after what she called the “most significant operational failure” in decades.

Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-Coal County) was among the most vocal calling for her resignation.

He and other members of the House Homeland Security Committee even visited the site of Trump’s attempted assassination Monday, later saying Cheatle is not a “credible leader.”

President Biden announced on Sunday that he is dropping out of the presidential race, endorsing Vice President Harris.

Before the announcement, Oklahoma Democratic delegates remained in support of Biden. Now, two delegates declined to comment on his pull from the race.

Oklahoma Republicans are not satisfied with the decision, some even calling for Biden’s immediate resignation.

Former president Trump announced Sen. J.D. Vance to be his running mate on the opening day of the Republican National Convention.

Vance was once a former critic of Trump, going as far as calling him “America’s Hitler,” but aligned himself with Trump’s campaign before his first senate term in 2022.

“Every teacher, every classroom in the state, will have a Bible in the classroom and will be teaching from the Bible in the classroom,” Walters said.

The directive also mandates the incorporation of the Ten Commandments into the curriculum.

“The words ‘separation of church and state’ do not appear in our Constitution,” Walters wrote on X.

The rollout of new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms is causing Oklahoma high school graduates to rethink their college plans.

Only 34.3% of this year’s graduates completed FAFSA in Oklahoma, dropping by 15.7% from 2023.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an aborted landing after a Southwest Airlines flight flew roughly 400 feet above Yukon High School early Wednesday.

Southwest Flight 4069 was around nine miles from the airport when it triggered a low altitude warning, alerting Air Traffic Control of the danger.

On Tuesday at a DACA anniversary celebration President Biden announced plans for a new executive order.

The order would give increased protections to undocumented migrants married to U.S. citizens who have lived in the country continuously for at least 10 years.

U.S. Representative Tom Cole (R-Moore) easily defeated political newcomer Paul Bondar in Tuesday’s Republican primary election. Cole advances to the general election where he will face Democrat Mary Brannon and Independent James Stacy.

This Tuesday marks the Oklahoma Republican primary, which is shaping to be one of the most expensive races in the state’s history.

Most eyes are on the 4th Congressional District race between longtime Rep. Tom Cole and political newcomer Paul Bondar, with nearly $8 million spent between the two candidates.

Representatives Kevin Hern (OK-1) and Frank Lucas (OK-3) also face primary challengers, with each campaign receiving over $1 million in donations.

Senator James Lankford (R-Oklahoma) has signed onto the DETECT Fentanyl and Xylazine Act.

The bipartisan bill would authorize the Department of Homeland Security to conduct research and implement equipment to better detect fentanyl at the border, which Lankford said is one step in stopping the crisis.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a tax reform bill designed to provide aid to families struggling with rising costs triggered by inflation.

In Oklahoma, where the poverty rate exceeded the national average according to data from 2020 Census, the bill would provide better government.
