TODAY ON ANOTHER VIEW 📻

WHRO Director of Equity Production and Outreach and Another Views Producer, Lisa Godley, former President of the National Association of Black Journalists and retired News Channel 3 anchor Barbara Ciara and local columnist Roger Chesley joined Barbara Hamm Lee in the studio today to discuss racism and journalism. A former Hampton Roads columnist and talk show host Dr. Wil LaVeist joined by phone.

The group discussed the appearance of presidential hopeful Donald Trump at this year’s National Association of Black Journalists conference this summer. Even before taking the stage, Trump’s appearance caused a divide on the appropriateness of inviting him to address the group.

Godley and Ciara shared their firsthand experience from the convention, while Chesley and LaVeist shared their perspective as media professionals and longtime NABJ members.

He’s a man of many talents… leading a city of 180,000 tackling issues like crime, unemployment and affordable housing while at the same time putting Newport News on the national stage after being tapped by the White House as one of 22 rising leaders.

He’s also the youngest mayor ever directly elected to lead the peninsula city.
