I’m currently directing this audiobook along with Carly Katz, AMERICA’S DEADLIEST ELECTION by Dana Bash and David Fisher! The symbolism in that Election in 1972 and this 2024 Election is scary! As I read this book, I could replace the name Warmouth with Trump and believe that this is today’s election.
In 1872, Warmouth knew that he couldn’t gather enough white votes to win so he pandered to black voters that felt disenfranchised. He caused an insurrection. He used bribery to win votes from even those he initially hated him. He was charismatic. He knew that negative publicity was equally as advantageous as positive publicity. I could go on and on.
Many lives were lost due to that election!
