After writing more than two dozen books in economic and political analysis (mainly economic), I thought it was time for a change. Thus, I am very thrilled to announce the forthcoming release of my next book “Monarch Of The Senate: How Mitch McConnell Ruled The U.S. Senate for More than Three Decades.”

While this book is the second biography I’ve written (after Thomas Sowell’s) it is the very first political biography I wrote about an American political leader. Writing about a U.S. President seemed cliché to me. Many biographies have been written about U.S. Presidents and I thought that I writing about a U.S. President wouldn’t be productive. I wanted to write about a powerful yet controversial political leader that is known, but who isn’t known in depth by the public.

Hence, I thought that Mitch McConnell was the perfect political leader to fulfill that task. We are about to experience the Cantillon Effect (once more) once the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates. For those who may not be familiar with the term “Cantillon Effect” it is the uneven distribution of wealth through inflation.

Once the Fed cut rates they will apply Quantitative Easing (QE)—the process of buying treasury bonds from government in exchange for pumping more money in the economy. Once that process is in motion, the Cantillon Effect will take place.

The wealthy will start getting richer because inflation is going to pump up the price of their assets. At that time, prices wouldn’t have changed yet. By the time the middle-and-low-income classes receive their portion of the money injected in the economy, prices would have already increased. Those who do not have their money tied to any investment (paper assets, real estate, commodities, businesses) will find themselves a little poorer than before in the long run because inflation will erode their purchasing power.

In the short-term, the middle-and-low-income classes will still be able to afford purchasing assets because of the low cost of borrowing despite the price of the asset already inflated because of inflation.

So far, while rate cuts will create inflation, I don’t think it will trigger the level of inflation we saw back in 2021. We can only hope that the Fed will proceed in a gradual rate-cut process rather than an abrupt one.
