Gregory D. Butcher
Newport
Gregory D. Greg Butcher, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many passed away March 10, 2024, in Newport, Washington, at the age of 51. He was born on June 4, 1972, in Nampa, Idaho, to his loving parents Gary and Joyce Butcher. Greg had an unwavering love for life that was evident in everything he did. He dedicated more than two decades of his life as a Certified Heavy Equipment Operator and Truck Driver before finding fulfillment working with the Washington State Department of Transportation in Highway Maintenance. His dedication to his work was matched only by his passion for the great outdoors.
A true outdoor enthusiast at heart, Greg looked forward to planning and attending the annual elk hunting trip each year. His love for nature extended beyond just hunting; he found joy in introducing others to the art of hunting and sharing his knowledge with them. In addition to being an avid hunter, Greg took immense pride in smoking meat and experimenting with different rubs – it was a hobby that brought him endless joy. His culinary creations were enjoyed by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.
Beyond these passions lay another side of Greg – one that reveled in high-speed excitement as a NASCAR/Stock car enthusiast. Whether cheering from home or attending races live whenever possible, this interest added yet another layer to his vibrant personality.
Above all else stood Greg’s devotion to family: Dawn Butcher (wife), Kody Butcher (son), Gary D. Butcher (father), Judy Lord (aunt), Gary D. Butcher (brother), Julie Simonsen (step-sister) Kim Simonsen (step-sister), Kory (DeAnna) Butcher (nephew), Mase and Madix (grand-nephews), many more family members and many, many friends. Oh, and can’t forget his beloved Labrador-retriever, Annabelle. They meant more than anything else could ever have possibly meant- they were truly what made him whole.
The loss felt by those who knew him is immeasurable but so too are their memories filled with laughter shared alongside him during better days gone past.
A funeral service will be held on April 13, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Sherman Campbell Funeral Home located at 423 2nd St., Newport, Washington, followed by a reception from 2:30-5 p.m. in the House of the Lord Multipurpose Room located at 754 Silver Birch Lane, Oldtown, Idaho, (potluck) where friends and loved ones can gather together once more – if only briefly – while celebrating Greg’s life.
May we find solace knowing that Gregory D. Butcher has left behind an indelible mark on our lives through cherished memories which shall never fade away.
Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends are welcome to visit their website at www.shermancampbell.com.

Harold R. Peterson
Oldtown, Idaho
Heaven gained a true angel, an amazing husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend, as Harold Raymond Peterson took his final breath on Jan. 21, 2024.
Harold was born to Tyler and Nellie Peterson on Oct. 18,1938, in Bellevue, Minn. In 1961 Harold met the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Ruby Lee Robinson. Together, they formed a life, raised a beautiful family, and experienced many adventures together. Harold and Ruby moved from Minnesota to Oldtown, Idaho, in 1966 where he started his own logging company. He worked with many life-long friends including Buck Merritt, Steve Sams and Ladimer Mischenko who were instrumental in his success. Harold and Ruby spent many winters at Suni Sands Resort in Yuma, Ariz., beginning in 1986.
Harold is known to all for his loyalty, sense of humor and love of the Lord. Harold enjoyed golfing, card games and time with friends both in Arizona and at home.
Harold is survived by three children, Dawn (Ben) Rice, Mary Gilds and Todd (Mae) Peterson. Harold has six grandchildren, Heather (Aaron) Huff, John Peterson, Veronica Peterson, Anthony Gilds, Alexis Gilds and Angel Gilds as well as five great-grandchildren, Desirae Eversole, Gunnar Eversole, Ashlyn Eversole, Myles Gilds and Charlotte Gilds, and two sisters, Helen (Richard) Krogstad and Patty Sederstrom.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby Peterson, brother James Peterson, brother in-law Bruce Sederstrom and sister-in-law Mary Peterson.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Creekside Memory Care and Hospice of North Idaho for all the care that was given to Harold over the past 16 months.
Please join us in a remembrance for Harold on Feb. 3, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Newport, Wash.
