2008 – China recalled a large amount of milk and milk products, like baby formula, after inspectors found them to be contaminated with melamine.

2010 – Paris Hilton accepted a plea deal and avoided jail stemming from an arrest on co***ne possession the month before in Las Vegas.

2011 – The "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law was repealed by President Barack Obama.

2017 – A powerful earthquake struck Mexico, injuring more than 6,000 people and killing 370.

1998 – While in Ireland, President Bill Clinton apologized, saying the words “I'm sorry,” regarding his affair with Monica Lewinsky and described his behavior as indefensible.

2006 – “The Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin died at age 44 while snorkeling in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and filming a documentary.

2011 – Japanese officials said more than 20 people were killed by Typhoon Talas.

2014 – Comedian Joan Rivers died at age 81 after complications from an out-of-hospital procedure to improve her vocal cords.
