We hope you had “A Very Shemo Christmas” 🎄❤️ and we also appreciate your patience as we took a hiatus from social media for the last few weeks to focus on the present, the here and now, and what’s most important — our family. We are excited about the New Year and new opportunities and are excited to share some fresh content through SG Living Magazine. Stay tuned and follow us on social media or check out our new website linked on this page to submit content or questions. We look forward to hearing from you and wish each of you a prosperous and very Happy New Year! 🤍 ✨
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Shemo Family for allowing us to share their story for the month of December as the Feature Family! When considering what family to display on the cover for the holidays it was a no-brainer when we heard what a labor of love and hard work they have put it over the years to bring everyone so much joy and happiness around Christmas time with their gorgeous light display! We appreciate them as I know you all do as well and hope that this wonderful family enjoyed a much needed break and restful holiday season. Stay tuned — the highly popular Christmas Display will be back and even better this year! 🎄 🎅
George and Linda, now married for 45 years, met while working at Ponderosa Restaurant when one was 18 and the other 21. These two are passionate about each other, their family and are full of so much zest for life and adventure! The community knows them mostly for their incredible Annual Christmas lights and inflatables display. The exhibit is a HUGE hit among the Summer Grove residents and beyond! For years they have been doing some 75,000 lights and tons of inflatables — they kick off this annual tradition on Thanksgiving Day at 7:30pm with a big reveal and “lighting” marking for many the official start to the holiday season! Although it’s a major task —taking two months to put up and another two to take down they eagerly do so knowing the joy it brings to so many people!
Over the years the couple raised two children, Jessica and Justin whom are now grown and have their own families. The Shemos find themselves traveling and hustling around trying to soak in every available second to spend time with their grandchildren — some near and some far!
Travel is in their blood especially for career Delta Pilot, George. It’s not a job to him it’s what he genuinely would like to be doing - flying, a love he first found in the Air Force and then later continued at Delta where he will soon retire after 35 years! Not only do they love to travel and to fly they have even built two custom planes together. George is always tinkering and working on a project and Linda is always eager to join him and work on things together! One recent project they completed was re-doing their backyard adding a pavilion and removing 50 trees among other improvements. Linda, a lover of puzzles and yoga says they are opposites but it provides good balance, Yin and Yang.
One thing is for sure — The Shemo family loves to live life to the fullest and take part in many events and activities within the Summer Grove community like the Easter Bunny Hunt and Fall Picnic. They love the smiling faces and beautiful scenery throughout the neighborhood and say it just feels like home!
After taking a hiatus this year from their magical Christmas spectacular, the family promises to bring it back this year and plan for it to be better than ever. Their love and commitment to each other, family and the community is like no other and shines brighter than their vibrant display at the holidays.
