\\ Trees Down - Damage from storms.

Highway 16 E at Georgian Pines Dr - trees down on roadway, vehicle has hit one of them - no injuries. Road is closed at the location as DOT is en route to clear multiple trees. ( This was in the path of the tornado warning )

Highway 85 at Dolly Nixon Rd - small tree, CCFR is clearing at this time.

This is all I've heard come over the radios, well this and a bunch of fire/burg alarms but that happens every time it rains or the wind blows.

\\ Severe WX - West Point, Lagrange, Columbus Areas

If you live north of Columbus towards Southern West Point and Lagrange, you need to keep an eye on this cell.

It started life nearly 2 hours ago as a lone cell ahead of the line and moved north before intersecting the line and is now headed east, north east.

It's had a tornado warning nearly that entire time.

Even if the tornado warning doesn't last into GA, expect this cell to produce severe weather for some time.

** This cell is not expected to affect Coweta County.

Troup County Breaking News

Latest from NWS agrees with what i just said above.

DISCUSSION...After merger of a long-track supercell with the
extensive QLCS near the Montgomery area of AL, an embedded bowing structure with mesovortices has formed and recently produced a brief TDS per the MXX 88D. The downstream evolution of this bow/mesovortices will likely contain greater tornado potential within WWs 722/723 during the next few hours. The MXX VWP has sampled a rather enlarged low-level hodograph with 0-1 km shear from 35-40 kts. MLCAPE around 500 J/kg should gradually spread east-northeast as surface dew points slowly increase through the mid 60s from southeast AL/south GA.

\\ Severe WX Update 145 AM

Currently looking like arrival is closer to 4 am, perhaps a little earlier.

Wedge has held up so far, you can see the northern end of the light ( orange box ) is less together and severe then the southern half ( red box ). This generally runs along the line of the wedge location.

Still a risk of severe weather and straight line winds for the area.

Locations further south, Lagrange and Columbus have higher risk at this time.

More updates as we get closer.

\\ Severe WX Update - Midnight

Tornado Watch has been moved east to the GA/AL line.

Remaining active tornado warnings are tracking in south AL.

Current position of the "wedge" is at pink arrows, it's moved north since 9 PM ( red line and arrows is previous location ).

Current consensus seems to be it'll hold on long enough to make the major risk for Coweta County straight line winds as the squall line moves through the area.

That being said, there remains a chance of small brief tornados.

Between 4 and 6 AM expect, HEVAY RAIN, WIND GUSTS OF 60MPH+, LIGHTING, POSSIBLE TORNADOS.

\\ Quick WX Discussion

The severity of the weather that impacts our local area is dependant on a few things, mainly how long a wedge currently over the north eastern part of the state holds out.

If the wedge weakens or recedes to the north east prior to the arrival of the anticipated squall line, then the threat posed by tornadic activity is greater.

If the wedge holds in it's current position and strength the threat is more of straight line winds associated with the storms within the line.

Both have a risk of damage to the local area as the storms come through.

Models aren't the best at deciding what the wedge will do. I've been reading all the NWS discussions and listening to the forecast of numerous respected local meteorologist - it's about 50/50 on which they believe will occur.

Remember - only get information from trusted sources, preferably more than one source. I trust and use the following handful in my research on what to expect locally.

James Spann Glenn Burns Ryan Hall, Y'all Reed Timmer Extreme Meteorologist Brad Nitz

and of course US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia.

These are just a few, I suggest checking them out, or making sure to get information from your trusted source.

To be clear, random people in the comments are not trusted sources of information.

\\ SEVERE WX UPDATE - 8 PM

UPDATE: Latest HRRR has changed the timing of highest risk of severe weather locally to 4 AM to 6 AM. ( https://www.facebook.com/newnancowetascanner/posts/pfbid0Uj4KHgAaKkwnUdpLYeKbPaQwwzTXzmSzSDJ41rtESqa2TmSQerEyFsMubad6LUq4l )

White line is the line that will be impacting us sometime after 5 AM locally.

Yellow boxed counties ( orange arrow ) are currently under a tornado watch.

Large red box ( pink arrow ) is the next area expected to get a tornado watch issued by the NWS ( Mesoscale Discussion ).

As you can see, the line is currently full of red tornado warnings and orange severe thunderstorm warnings.

We are likely to see some isolated storms ahead of the main squall line, these may be severe themselves but are going to be pretty hit and miss.

Models are showing that this line will be just as strong as it enters the Coweta County area and you can see from the position of expected tornado watch in Northern AL that the line is expected to extend further north over time.

Please, please keep aware of warnings as we get closed to that 5 to 6 AM period. I pray I'm wrong and this is nothing, but I'd much rather everyone be on alert and be wrong then the other way around.

Much love and good vibes - I know this is peaking everyones anxiety but we gotta stay safe.

\\ Fatal House Fire

Just before 3 AM this morning, E911 received a call regarding a residence in the 100 block of Moore Rd that was on fire.

The caller, an individual driving in the area, reported the entire top half of the house was on fire.

Units with Coweta County Fire Rescue as well as the Coweta County Sheriff's Office (Georgia) were dispatched to the scene.

Within minutes the caller reported the entire house had caught on fire and was threatening to catch a vehicle in the yard on fire.

The first unit on scene, a CCSO deputy, arrived within 4 minutes of the dispatch and confirmed the house was fully engulfed. Within 2 minutes the first CCFR unit was on scene and began fire fighting operations.

Due to the progression of the fire upon arrival, operations began in a defensive operation as units began to attempt to stop the spread of the fire to surrounding brush and vehicles. It also stopped units from being able to do a primary search of the residence for any residence.

Once they had it contained, CCFR units worked to extinguish the fire. Roughly 45 minutes after arriving on the scene, units were able to knock down the fire allowing units to enter the structure.

Upon a search of the interior of the residence, units located the remains of a single male resident that had perished during the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been released.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

Prayers for the victim, their family, and the first responders that fought the fire.
