Storm Debby is coming to South Carolina. We will see some effects of her wrath, mainly from rain. The volume will be determined by the track and forward progress. The further West the storm goes, the more ran we will have. The storm is predcited to stall somewhere around Charleston, which will funnel more rain. Based on several models, I think we can see 3-8 inches from Tuesday to Friday, with the highest levels being in the Mid Carolina/Lake Murray area. We can experience flooding in low lying areas and along tributaries. The largest dangers will be from street flooding/flash flooding in the streets, which can cause hydroplaning of vehicles and pooling of water in the roadway. Remember slow down. Turn around, don’t drown. More will follow as the storm gets closer to us. Now, down at the coast, it will be very bad, not so much from wind, but water. Stay aware.

LifeNet 7 is extremely fortunate to work the with an amazing group of EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement Officers in the upstate. This is proved every single mission that we complete! We would like to take a moment to highlight a group of these extraordinary people that went above and beyond for our on duty crew last night. LifeNet 7 crew was flying back to base after completing a mission. They landed at Newberry Airport due to weather that had moved into the area. A Newberry County Deputy saw them landing and immediately came to check on the crew. Newberry County Sheriff Deputies along with Newberry County Dispatch went above and beyond to make sure that our crew was taken care of and had everything they needed including a ride back to our base! This is the definition of team work and going above and beyond and we are extremely grateful to be part of this network of amazing agencies! We would also like to thank Prisma Health EMS who had also offered to make sure the crew made it back to the base! Thank you to each and every person involved last night! We appreciate it greatly.

Prosperity man charged in shooting death of SLED K-9

LEXINGTON, S.C. - Lexington County deputies have arrested a Prosperity man accused of fatally shooting a police dog last week when Newberry County deputies and State Law Enforcement Division agents tried to arrest him.

James Robert Peterson, 37, is charged with cruelty to a police dog, breach of peace, possession of a weapon by a person convicted of certain crimes, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon and four counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, according to arrest warrants.

"We began our investigation of this case the day it happened, June 11, at the request of the two agencies involved," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. "In consultation with Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo, we've determined these charges are warranted based on Peterson's actions during the encounter with Newberry County deputies and SLED agents as they attempted to arrest him on a felony warrant on Gravel Road in Prosperity."

Peterson failed to follow lawful commands and shot SLED K-9 Coba with a shotgun as the dog tried to apprehend him, according to Koon.

"The four counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person stem from Peterson pointing the shotgun in the direction of four law enforcement officers after fatally shooting Coba," Koon said.

Koon said since the incident happened in Newberry County, Stumbo would be prosecuting the criminal charges against Peterson.

Peterson is being held at the Newberry County Detention Center.

As with all criminal prosecutions under the United States Constitution, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
