What started out as an epilogue turned into a book of its own. The 13 stories you will read are compelling. They should be. Told by actual combat veterans of the Vietnam conflict, they reflect on so many battles that were fought; battles that were of the "kill, or be killed" type. The stories are, at times, raw. Other times they are humorous. Some end well, some do not.

One thing for sure is that every one of these fine gentlemen are heroes of the highest order. I found them humble and unassuming about taking on this role. I hope this book will elevate them to their proper place, along with their countless comrades in arms.

ON MORALS IS A NASCENT EXPLORATION OF IDEAS we contemplate every day. It provides a finite structure that can be used to describe an infinite array of unique situations and circumstances. It removes the idea that Morals are subjectively concerned with "right" and "wrong," replacing it with the objective concern of human survival at all levels.

Humanity and the survival of it should be a foremost concern in a complex world full of diverse issues, solutions, and people. No longer do we live in a society isolated by geographical boundaries: I challenge each person to press onward in life knowing that their actions cascade to affect dozens of others, encouraging all to be kind at every opportunity, to nurture those who need help and to seek ways to help those who can't ask directly. The ideas, the design and development of patterns, the teams that have been built around these ideas, and the outreach to other needleworkers to support and sustain these efforts deserve more attention. Eisner builds on her backstory, calling on readers to feel their own Call to Needles, whether they participate in an existing project or create a new phenomenon.

Writing this book began as the author's coping mechanism while watching the slow chipping away at democracy, both in the US and around the world. It quickly became a passion project. The moment came that, even knowing there was more to discover, the writing simply had to stop. The story will continue.
