Four people in Southern California were arrested for insurance fraud after they claimed their cars were trashed by a bear...when it was actually someone in a bear costume. The group submitted claims for damage to two Mercedes cars and a Rolls-Royce. Investigators showed surveillance video of the incidents to a biologist from the Fish and Game service who only watched a few moments of the video before saying it was clearly a human in a bear suit. Police raided a suspects home and discovered the bear costume and metal hand tools to simulate claw marks. Let me count the ways these guys messed up. First, have you guys heard of method acting? The guy who wore the costume should have done his homework..gone to a zoo and look at real bears for a while to see how they move...maybe live in the woods for a while and pretend to be a bear. Maybe collect some real bear p**p to spread in the cars to throw the cops off. Also, only targeting luxury cars? That's a little suspicious. The fake bear should have trashed at least one POS car...maybe somebody's 20 year old Ford Pinto. But I have to give the guy in the bear costume some credit for guts. Wild bears do sometimes come down from the mountains near LA and trash people's homes and cars. What if the fake bear guy had met a real bear...and it was mating season?

An ice skating rink in England is getting a lot of attention because of something stuck under two inches of ice. Skaters often stop in the middle of the giant ice rink to stare at something under the ice---a bright pink iPhone. It has become something of a tourist attraction after media outlets reported about it online. Apparently one of the workers setting up the rink lost his smartphone and had to borrow his daughter's pink iPhone only to forget it in the middle of the rink right before it was flooded with water and frozen overnight. The next day some of his co-workers spotted it while inspecting the ice. Even though the phone is only two inches below the surface, they can't dig it out because it would ruin the smooth surface of the ice. Melting the ice...retrieving the phone and refreezing the rink would be too expensive and time consuming. So, the phone has to remain entombed in the ice for the next two months. Wow. How did this guy explain to his daughter what happened to her phone? “Honey...you like your phone and you like those animated "Frozen" movies right? Well, have I got a surprise for you.” This is a heaven sent opportunity for the iPhone folks to test their products. Remember that iPhone 11 retrieved from the bottom of a lake a year after it was dropped by its clumsy owner? It still worked. If that pink phone still works after it's taken out of the ice, they ought to shoot it out of a cannon...shoot it into space...whatever.

celebrate having everything on your pizza except anchovies. You know anchovies get a bad wrap. When I was a kid it was no problem getting anchovies on your pizza but now..try to get some pizza delivered with anchovies ...good luck. I think the reason anchovies got kicked to the curb and off pizzas is...they put too many anchovies on pizzas and it ruined the taste. Less is more with anchovies. What I used to like to do was have one and only one
anchovy on my pizza and tell the pizza maker to cover the anchovy up with other toppings. That way when I ate that part of the pizza with the anchovy on it...it was a salty surprise....

Ok...On this day in 1892, this guy named "Pudge" Heffelfinger became the first professional football player when he was paid a 500 dollar bonus--about 14 thousand dollars in today's money--for scoring a winning touchdown during a game. Today that's chump change. I looked it up. The average wide receiver in the NFL now gets about a million dollars for every TD.

On this day in 1970, the Oregon Highway Division used half a ton of dynamite to blow up the carcass of a beached whale, with unexpectedly messy results. A military veteran with explosives training who happened to be in the area warned that twenty cases of dynamite was far too much but his advice went unheeded. Whale body parts were scattered across the beach, with chunks of whale hitting spectators and destroying a Cadillac parked a quarter
mile away. A reporter on the scene at the time joked on air that "land-lubber newsmen" became "land-blubber newsmen for the blast blasted blubber beyond believable bounds" The odor of the exploding whale lingered for some time. Only some of the whale was disintegrated; most of it remained on the beach for the Oregon Highway Division workers to clear away. Also, the scavenger birds, that officials hoped would eat the remains of the carcass after the explosion, did not appear as they were possibly scared away by the noise. The explosives expert's brand-new automobile, purchased during a "Get a Whale of a Deal" promotion in a nearby city, was damaged by a chunk of falling blubber. You can't make this stuff up.

Hey, guys...don't fall for romance scams. These online seductresses are getting more and more sophisticated regarding the methods they use and the stories they tell to scam money out of lovestruck dudes. Don't fall for these lines..."I'm sending you a gift but I just need some money to pay the customs fees"..."You know..I really like you. I want to teach you how to invest"..."You can trust me with your private pictures"...."I'm a princess trapped in a castle...I heard your voice over the radio...the voice that went right to my heart..." Um...that last line was....sent to a friend of mine. Yeah..well anyway. There's a lady in China who took advantage of one guy's loneliness and belief in superstition and came up with something creative. The woman, who said her name was Li, portrayed herself as wealthy and single. She said her husband had just died and she was ready for a new married life with this guy named Wang but before they could get married she needed Wang to do her a favor. She wanted Wang to perform a 'marriage bed burning' ritual to appease the spirit of her former husband. Li said her wealth was inherited from her husband and the ritual would be a "thank you gesture" for him..and a necessary step to enable Wang and Li to have a prosperous marriage. Li told Wang he needed to spend the equivalent of 14 thousand dollars for the ritual to show his sincerity. She required Wang to wire the money to her. Li said she couldn't attend the ceremony because it would bring bad luck. After Wang sent the money, Li disappeared and Wang was left heartbroken and penniless. For Wang, it was like Li reached into his chest..pulled out his heart...and broke it and crushed it. The worst thing a woman ever did to me was...reach in..grab the heart...show it to me...threaten to break it.....and then put it back in my chest..a little crooked...I'm talking to you Pat Benatar.
