British police have detained a man accused of carrying out a triple murder of the racing commentator's wife and two of their children.

Authorities located the suspect, Kyle Clifford, 26, near Enfield July 10 following a manhunt that was launched after Carol Hunt, 61, and daughters Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were found fatally injured at their home in Hertfordshire, northwest of London, Sky News reported.

Aerial footage from the outlet shows police carrying Clifford on a stretcher in a cemetery.

"He is receiving medical treatment having been found with injuries," the Hertfordshire Constabulary said in a statement. "No shots were fired by police."

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit added, “Following extensive enquiries, the suspect has been located and nobody else is being sought in connection with the investigation at this time."

জন হান্টের পরিবারকে ভালোভাবে চেনেন এমন এক নারী ওই পরিবার সম্পর্কে বলেন, তারা খুবই আন্তরিক, বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ এবং কোমল মনের মানুষ। তারা সব সময় অন্যদের সাহায্যে এগিয়ে এসেছেন।

পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, এ হত্যাকাণ্ডে সন্দেহভাজন যে ব্যক্তিকে আটক করা হয়েছে তিনি দুই বছর আগে সেনাবাহিনীর চাকরি ছেড়ে দেন।

এদিকে এই হত্যাকাণ্ডের ঘটনা সামনে আসতেই বিবিসিসহ যুক্তরাজ্যের সংবাদমাধ্যমের কর্মীদের মধ্যে শোকের ছায়া নেমে এসেছে। বিবিসিতে ৩০ বছরের বেশি সময় ধরে চাকরি করছেন হান্ট। সংবাদমাধ্যম এবং রেসিং সমর্থকদের মধ্যেও তিনি বেশ জনপ্রিয়।

কী কারণে একসঙ্গে তিনজনকে হত্যা করা হলো সে বিষয়টি এখনো নিশ্চিত নয়। হত্যার শিকার নারীদের সঙ্গে সন্দেহভাজন ব্যক্তিদের পূর্বপরিচয় ছিল কি না তা যাচাই করা সম্ভব হয়নি বলে প্রতিবেদনে উল্লেখ করা হয়।

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman was elected as new emir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) by getting majority votes on Thursday.

Three names were presented by the Central Shura members to lead the Jamaat. Sirajul Haq, Liaquat Baloch and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman were among the contestants. The decision was taken by the majority of Jamaat-e-Islami members. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman will lead the Jamaat till 2029.

Imagine the vast expanse of the world’s oceans. Now, picture an underwater realm three times that size, not across the globe’s surface, but tucked away deep beneath it, at a depth of 700 kilometers. This isn’t the plot of a sci-fi novel but the startling discovery made by a team of scientists, unraveling the mysteries of our planet’s water origins.

The scientists from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois have discovered a reservoir of water that is three times the size of all of Earth's oceans, deep beneath the planet's surface. This underground water supply rests some 700 km beneath our feet.

The quest to find the origins of Earth’s water led researchers to the massive find—a colossal ocean ensconced within the Earth’s mantle, over 700 kilometres below the surface.

This hidden ocean, concealed within a blue rock known as ringwoodite, dares our understanding of where Earth’s water came from. The size of this subterranean sea is triple the volume of all the planet’s surface oceans combined.

This new discovery not only enthrals with its scale but also proposes a new theory about Earth’s water cycle. It recommends that instead of arriving via comet impacts, as some theories have posited, Earth’s oceans may have slowly seeped out from its very core.

Science Behind The Discovery:
Steven Jacobsen, a researcher at Northwestern University in Illinois and the lead author of the study, informs, “This is substantial evidence that water on Earth came from within.”
To uncover this underground ocean, researchers used an array of 2000 seismographs across the United States, analysing seismic waves from over 500 earthquakes. Waves which travel through Earth’s inner layers, including its core, slow down when passing through wet rock, allowing scientists to assume the presence of this vast water deposit.

Earth’s Water Cycle Reimagined:
The possibility that water exists in the Earth's mantle and sweats between the rock grains may change our perception of the planet's water cycle. Jacobsen further emphasised the importance of this reservoir, pointing out that without it, water would be on the surface of the Earth and that the only visible land may be the peaks of mountains.

অজান্তেই নারীরা তাদের প্রেমিকের শরীরের গন্ধ নিতে পছন্দ করেন। অনেকে তো প্রেমিকের পরা কাপড় নিজ সংগ্রহে রাখেন ও সেটির গন্ধ উপভোগ করেন।

বিষয়টি অদ্ভুত হলেও কিন্তু এই অভ্যাসের উপকারিতা আছে। জানলে অবাক হবেন, সঙ্গীর শরীরের গন্ধ অ্যান্টি-স্ট্রেসের কাজ করে। মানসিক চাপ কমাতে প্রেমিকের শরীরের গন্ধ বেশ কার্যকর, এমনটিই জানাচ্ছে এক গবেষণা।

জার্নাল অব পারসোনালিটি অ্যান্ড সোশ্যাল সাইকোলোজি’তে প্রকাশিত এক গবেষণায় এমনটিই জানিয়েছেন গবেষকরা। গবেষণা অনুসারে, প্রেমিকের শরীরের গন্ধ স্ট্রেস কমাতে সাহায্য করে।

গবেষণায় ৯৬ জন নারী অংশগ্রহণ করেন, যারা পুরুষের ব্যবহৃত শার্টের গন্ধ নেন। ওই শার্টগুলোতে ডিওডোরেন্ট, পারফিউম বা গন্ধযুক্ত অন্য কোনো পণ্য ব্যবহার না করে ২৪ ঘণ্টার জন্য পুরুষদেরকে পরতে বলা হয়েছিল।

শরীরের গন্ধ ছাড়া শার্টে যাতে অন্য কোনো গন্ধ না লাগে এজন্য তাদেরকে এমন কিছু না খেতে কিংবা ধূমপান না করতে নিষেধ করা হয়েছিল।

গবেষণায় অংশগ্রহণ করা নারীদেরকে ৩ ধরনের শার্ট শুঁকতে দেওয়া হয়েছিল। একটি তার সঙ্গীর, একটি অন্য ব্যক্তির ও একটি নিরপেক্ষ বা অপরিচিত একজনের পরা শার্ট।

প্রতিটি নারীর চোখ বেঁধে দেওয়া হয়েছিল ও একেক দলকে ভিন্ন ভিন্ন শার্ট শুঁকতে দেওয়া হয়েছিল। তাদের দেহে কর্টিসলের (একটি স্ট্রেস হরমোন) মাত্রা পরিমাপের জন্য লালার নমুনাও নেওয়া হয়েছিল।

এমনকি তারা কেমন মানসিক চাপ অনুভব করছিলেন সে সম্পর্কেও প্রশ্ন করা হয়েছিল।

ফলস্বরূপ দেখা যায়, যে নারীরা তাদের সঙ্গীর শার্টের গন্ধ নিয়েছেন তারা পরীক্ষার আগে ও পরে উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই কম চাপ অনুভব করেছেন যারা অপরিচিত ব্যক্তির শার্ট শুঁকেছেন তাদের তুলনায়।

মজার বিষয় হলো, যারা অপরিচিত ব্যক্তির শার্ট শুঁকেছিলেন তাদের মধ্যে কর্টিসলের পরিমাণ বেড়ে গিয়েছিল। আর যারা তাদের সঙ্গীর গন্ধ চিনতে পেরেছিলেন তারা আরও কম চাপে ছিলেন।

এই গবেষণার ফলাফল বিবেচনা করে গবেষকরা দাবি করেন, প্রেমিকের গন্ধের প্রভাব এমনকি তার অনুপস্থিতিতেও প্রেমিকার মন ভালো রাখে ও মানসিক চাপ কমাতে কার্যকর ভূমিকা রাখে।

শুধু নারীদের ক্ষেত্রেই নয়, পুরুষরাও কিন্তু তার প্রেমিকার শরীরের গন্ধ নিতে ভালোবাসেন। প্রেমিকার শরীরের গন্ধ দ্বারা বেশি প্রভাবিত হন পুরুষরা।

তবে প্রেমিকার শরীরের গন্ধ পুরুষের মানসিক চাপ কমাতে পারে কি না সে বিষয়ে কোনো গবেষণা হয়নি।

South Korea faces a profound demographic shift as its young adult population is anticipated to halve by mid-century, contributing to concerns in the country grappling with the planet's lowest fertility rate.

In analysis from South Korea's national statistical agency, released on Monday, underscores the continuing decline in the proportion of youth within the population.

The decline in the youthful working-age population also raises concerns about the long-term economic competitiveness of South Korea, Asia's fourth-largest economy.

In 1990, young adults aged 19 to 34 comprised almost a third of the populace (https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20231127004800320). However, by 2020, this demographic had dwindled to 10.21 million, constituting a mere fifth of the total 51 million population. Forecasts from the Statistics Korea report project this figure will drop to 5.21 million by 2050.
In stark contrast, South Koreans aged 65 and above constituted 17.5 percent of the population last year. This trend indicates that the elderly will outnumber young adults by the decade's end, according to Statistics Korea.
Korean Statistics had not responded to Newsweek’s request for comment by publication time.

A societal shift has also seen an increasing number of young adults living alone, accounting for one-fifth of youth in 2020—threefold the figure for 2000.

In addition, over 7.8 million young adults, or more than four in five, were unmarried in 2020, a figure that has progressively risen since 2000.
Notably, there were higher rates of single men (86.1 percent) compared to women (76.8 percent), with 87.4 percent of 25-29 year olds and 56.3 percent of 30-34 year olds identifying as single.

The falling proportion of young adults, coupled with the proportion of them who are single, looms large against South Korea's falling fertility rate, which President Yoon Suk Yeol has called a "crucial national agenda."

South Korea's fertility rate, presently at a mere 0.78 per 1,000 women according to Statistics Korea, falls far below the replacement rate required to sustain a stable population, estimated at 2.1 children per woman by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

The country isn't alone in confronting this demographic challenge.
Neighboring China, Japan, and Taiwan are experiencing similar shifts in their population dynamics.

Recent data from China's statistics bureau revealed a decline in births across about two-thirds of its regions, despite the government's attempts to incentivize child-rearing, such as relaxing the "one-child" policy in recent years.

A man, claiming to be a supporter of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), threw a shoe at the judge during court proceedings in Chittagong, narrowly missing the judge as the shoe hit the wall above his head.

The accused, identified as Monir Khan alias Michael, 31, a resident of Nasirnagar police station in Brahmanbaria, is facing charges of insulting Bangabandhu. The police described him as an active BNP supporter.

The incident took place at the Chittagong Divisional Cyber Tribunal on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the shoe-throwing, the accused was taken away and legal action is underway, said Chittagong District Police Inspector (Prosecution) Zakir Hossain.

Mejbah Uddin Ahmed, the public prosecutor of the court, confirming the incident, said that the incident disrupted the court atmosphere.

According to court sources, on June 13, 2021, at 4:15pm, Monir live-streamed a 2:51 minutes video on his personal Facebook account, insulting various political figures, including Bangabandhu and government officials. The case was filed by Sub-Inspector Tapu Saha of Nasirnagar police station, leading to Monir's arrest the next day.

An unprecedented number of undocumented Indian immigrants are crossing U.S. borders on foot, according to new data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. What has been a years-long increase in migration has now developed into a dramatic spike.

From October 2022 to this September, the 2023 fiscal year, there were 96,917 Indians encountered — apprehended, expelled or denied entry — having entered the U.S. without papers. It marks a fivefold increase from the same period from 2019 to 2020, when there were just 19,883.

Immigration experts say several factors are at play, including an overall growth in global migration since the pandemic, oppression of minority communities in India, smugglers’ use of increasingly sophisticated and in-demand methods of getting people to America, and extreme visa backlogs.

The number of undocumented Indians in the U.S. has been climbing since borders opened post-Covid, with 30,662 encountered in the 2021 fiscal year and 63,927 in the 2022 fiscal year.

Out of the nearly 97,000 encounters this year, 30,010 were at the Canadian border and 41,770 at the Southern border.

“The Southern border has just become a staging ground for migrants from all parts of the world to come to the U.S. most quickly,” said Muzaffar Chishti, a lawyer and the director of non-partisan research group Migration Policy Institute’s New York office. “Why would you wait for a visitor visa in Delhi if you can make it faster to the Southern border?”

The Canadian border, on the other hand, has large stretches that are virtually unguarded at times, said Gaurav Khanna, an assistant professor of economics at the University of California at San Diego, whose research concentrates on immigration.

While not all routes look the same, a journey from India to the U.S. might take migrants on several legs, all while being passed among various facilitators.

“People will get you to, let’s say, the Middle East, or people will get you to Europe,” Chishti said. “The next journey from there would be to Africa. If not Africa, maybe then to South America. Then the next person will get you from South America to the south of Mexico. Then from the south of Mexico to the northern cities of Mexico, and then the next person will get you over to the U.S.”

Long, treacherous journeys often land migrants in limbo, facing overwhelmed immigration systems, he said. CBP told NBC News that families coming to the U.S. illegally will face removal.

“No one should believe the lies of smugglers through these travel agencies. The fact is that individuals and families without a legal basis to remain in the United States will be removed,” a CBP spokesperson said.

But when those migrants are coming from across an ocean, experts say, the reality is far more complicated.

“You can easily turn people back to Mexico — that’s their country, ‘make a U-turn,’” Chishti said. “But you can’t deport people to faraway places that easily. Mexico won’t take them. Why would Mexico take an Indian?”

Though still relatively low compared to migration from Mexico and Central America, the number of undocumented Indians crossing U.S. borders has been growing for several years, said Pawan Dhingra, a professor of American studies at Amherst College. But the growth this past fiscal year was unprecedented.
He and other South Asian American scholars worry that the recent spike might have something to do with worsening conditions for minorities like Muslims, Sikhs and Christians in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which has been widely criticized for human rights violations.

“Many of them are Sikh, seeking asylum based on how they feel they’ve been mistreated and targeted in Punjab under Modi’s government,” he said. “Now the U.S. has a big problem on its hands. It’s cozying up to Modi in every possible way, in terms of state visits and rhetoric, but it has an increased set of asylum-seekers from this country.”

A series of laws deregulating India’s agricultural sector in 2020 threatened to upend the lives of many farmers, especially in the North Indian state of Punjab. Modi’s government, among other things, removed the minimum prices of key crops, leading to massive protests around the country that were sometimes met with violence from the state.

In September 2021, over 500,000 farmers gathered in the state of Uttar Pradesh to protest the laws.

The bills were formally repealed in December 2021.

But experts say the destabilization and the scale of the protests were enough to constitute an asylum claim.

“They have a perception that they have no future in that country,” Chishti said.

In comparison to an India that migrants might feel is pushing them out, a promised new life in the U.S. seems ideal. The general success of Indian Americans in the U.S. or of previous migrants who have taken the same journey are some of the factors that pull people in.

“People in Punjab might know people who went from their village, cousins and aunts and uncles and so forth,” Khanna said. “That creates more waves of movement.”
