Welcome back to my latest newsletter, the go-to spot for all things fashion and sustainability!

In this issue, i've got a bit of everything. From some unfortunate news in Taiwan to the inspiring voices shouting out for more sustainable practices, i've got it covered. We're looking into the U.N.'s call to the fashion industry to cut back on overconsumption and even chatting about how the tween girl trends are seeping into adult fashion.

And it's getting wild as Banana Republic goes back to its safari roots! Meanwhile, big names like Puma and Collina Strada are getting onboard with the GFA Designer Challenge 2023 to champion responsible fashion.

On the business side of things, i've got some cool updates. The Web3 Fashion Platform SYKY is launching an incubator for up-and-coming digital designers, Kenyan startup ShopZetu is gearing up for expansion, and Ajio Street in India is shaking things up with its low-cost model. Although, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, as fast-fashion giant Shein has been facing some heat lately.

To wrap things up, we're celebrating some big wins for sustainability with Europe's plan to ban the destruction of unsold textiles and Material Exchange's new 'Deadstock Depot' initiative.

🌟 Hey there, friends! 👋 I stumbled upon a truly fascinating topic that I couldn't wait to share with you all. Have you ever wondered about the impact of different fabrics on our bodies? 🤔 Well, I recently came across some mind-blowing studies that explore this very question!

From a study by Dr. Heidi Yellen, who delved into the frequencies of fabrics, to a more recent research conducted by Malgorzata Zimniewska and Izabella Krucińska on the physiological effects of clothing materials, the findings are eye-opening! 📚✨

Did you know that fabrics with higher frequencies, like linen, can actually provide energy to our bodies? 🌟 And the way wool and linen interact with each other is simply fascinating! Their frequencies cancel each other out, resulting in some unexpected effects on our bodies' electrical fields. ⚡️

But it doesn't stop there! The research also reveals the influence of fabric composition on the activity of our muscles. Certain materials, like polyester, can cause desynchronization of motor units, while others, such as linen blends, provide optimal comfort and maintain muscle activity. 💪

The new report by Plastic Soup Foundation presents the key facts from recent scientific research on the effects of microplastic fibres on our health.

Considering almost 70% of all clothes are made of plastic, the associated health risks can no longer be ignored. 

Plastic Soup Foundation are urging the European Commission to set binding legislative measures to tackle this issue.

H&M is being sued. Surprised or about time? Let's discuss.

The fast fashion company is accused of greenwashing.

A quick sum:
H&M usually releases a conscious/environmental friendly range with a sustainability scorecard called ‘Sustainability Profiles’ into the labeling, packaging, and marketing materials etc... A customer (Chelsea Commodore) found out that the information on some of the products are not only incorrect but actually the opposite.

i.e One 'Sustainable profile' said the dress was made with 20% less water BUT was actually made with 20% MORE water. Another item was presented to have been made with 30% less water but also was actually made with 30% more.

Basically H&M lied about information about their "sustainable" $25 cardigans or $40 dresses - wait... do you see a bigger problem here? 😏
