On our , has a special show in honor of Naomi Pomeroy (), an award-winning chef & restaurateur, who tragically passed away on July 13, 2024, in a tubing accident in Oregon at age 49. As a tribute, we are sharing Shari’s recorded interview with Naomi from June 3, 2022, focusing on her chef advice for Shari’s book, Chefwise: Life Lessons from Leading Chefs Around the World (, Spring 2023), which Naomi is a contributor to.

stated that Naomi was a “chef who made Portland a dining destination,” & described her as “a self-taught chef with an irreverent streak whose high standards and generosity of spirit made her the culinary matriarch of Portland, Ore.” As a Portland-based chef, Naomi’s ventures have included Family Supper, Clark Lewis, Gotham Tavern, & Ripe Cooperative. Her time as chef & owner of Portland’s beloved gastronomic shrine Beast from 2007 to 2020 made her one of the region’s most successful chefs & earned her the 2014 Award for Best Chef Pacific Northwest. Naomi was selected as one of America’s Best New Chefs by in 2009, & also appeared on multiple cooking competition shows, including as a contestant on Top Chef Masters & Iron Chef, & a judge on Top Chef Knife Fight & Bobby’s Triple Threat. She published her 1st book in 2016 entitled Taste and Technique, Recipes to Elevate Your Home Cooking, with Jamie Feldmar. In addition,nduring the pandemic, Naomi became involved in the (IRC).

Shari is heartbroken for the loss of Naomi. 💔 Grateful for her friendship & contribution to , & to be able to share their conversation, where they discussed many topics in her book, including leadership, business, team, work-life balance, & fundamentals. Our sincerest condolences to Naomi’s family, friends & team. Naomi, you will be greatly missed.

On our , has a special show in honor of James Kent (), also known as Jamal James Kent, an outstanding chef, restaurateur, husband, father, & friend, who suddenly passed away this past Sat 6/15/24 from a heart attack at the young age of 45. As a tribute, we are rebroadcasting our with James, which originally aired on Wed 6/3/20, when Shari spoke with him remotely during the trying times of Covid.

wrote that James was “a distinguished chef and successful Manhattan restaurateur who seemed poised to become a food industry tycoon.” James’ company, , includes restaurants (1 Michelin star) & (2 Michelin stars), & cocktail bar ( #3 on NA’s 50 Best Bars list), which are all in the same building in Manhattan’s Financial District at 70 Pine Street. Crown Shy is on the ground floor, & Saga & Overstory are part of the 62, 63, 64 & 66 floors, along with private dining room, 12 terraces & 360 panoramic views. James future plans included Snackville at Santa Monica Pier in CA as a partnership with SC Holdings; several projects from fine dining to a fast-casual chicken sandwich concept with NBA great & his investment firm LRMR Ventures; a 140-seat restaurant at 360 Park Ave So in NYC with Exec Chef .dannygarcia, who was named ’s Top Chef: Season 21; a new bakery & all-day cafe in newly renovated Domino Sugar factory in Brklyn with Exec Pastry Chef ; & 5 restaurants in partnership with Paris luxury department store at 1 Wall St, led by Culinary Director . James was also working with Shari’s publisher on a book to tell his story.

We’re heartbroken. 💔 Shari was honored to know James & call him a friend. He was not only an extremely well-respected leader, but had a beautiful soul & the ability to make others feel special. His incredible legacy will live on. Our deepest condolences to , Gavin & Avery, & everyone who loved James too. Thank you, James, for sharing your story with us & the wonderful memories. Born in 1956 on a farm in the Landes region of France, Chef Ducasse is now at the helm of over thirty restaurants in 9 countries around the world, from prestigious establishments, including Le Meurice Alain Ducasse, Le Louis XV; Alain Ducasse at L’Hôtel de Paris; and Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester; to Parisian bistros and casual brasseries. He became the first chef to have three restaurants awarded with three Michelin stars at the same time in 2005 (Paris, Monaco & New York), and one of just two chefs in the world to have been awarded 21 stars altogether. He currently holds a total of 18 Michelin stars. Chef Ducasse has set up schools, created artisan factories, and is the author of several cookbooks. ✨

Shari chats with Chef Ducasse about his impressive career & the influence he’s had on so many, & his new book, Good Taste - A Life of Food and Passion (Gallic Books, 4/16/24), which captures the essence of his illustrious career and the core of his philosophy, inspirations and creative process. ✨

On our , loved chatting with Valerie Chang Cumpa (), an award-winning Miami-based chef who along with her family, including her brother , opened in the Design District, focusing on Nikkei cuisine; & in 2019, the team opened a fast casual off-shoot concept, , inside popular Asian Food Hall, . Her latest restaurant is in Miami’s Midtown neighborhood, which has a modern take on comida criolla, the traditional Peruvian food of Valerie’s upbringing. ✨🎧

Valerie, or Val, quickly garnered praise as one of the city’s top young chefs, earning an Eater Young Gun nom (2018), two James Beard semifinalist noms for Rising Star Chef (2019, 2020) & noms for Best Chef South (2022, 2023). Max & Marco previously worked together at Chef’s Table earlier in their careers, & now bring their deep culinary experience & expertise from working in Michelin-starred restaurants around the world. ✨

Raised in Austria, Max most recently led the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Alois in Munich, where he was also named one of Germany’s 50 Best Chefs, & prior worked at award winning restaurants like Rote Wand and Steirereck in Austria, The Nomad in New York, and L’Auberge de l’Ile in France. Originally from Holland, Marco previously served as executive chef at Ukiyo in New York, which was awarded a Michelin-star under his tenure and multiple 3-Michelin-star restaurants in Europe, including Parkheuvel and Oud Sluis in the Netherlands and Zilte in Belgium. ✨
