Black Wall Street USA districts can be recognized as an urban area that is a thriving center of business, industry, and culture and is one commercial strip that has 50%-70% or more businesses owned by African A

mericans. This will enable local organizers and Black Wall Street district leaders to focus on what they are doing within their potential district. We’re thrilled to introduce Zuriel Gibson as the new Lupus Initiative Director for Black Wall Street! 🎉

Zuriel is a passionate advocate, author of Warrior by Nature, and a true warrior herself in the fight against lupus and autoimmune diseases. She’s joining our mission to bring awareness, resources, and support to communities nationwide.

Her first initiative? A Lupus and Autoimmune Awareness Tour in collaboration with our state directors, leading to the establishment of dedicated Lupus Hubs in each area. These hubs will be a vital resource for those living with lupus and autoimmune diseases, fostering education, advocacy, and support.

The African American journey from slavery to the present has been one of both remarkable progress and continuous struggle. The complexities of freedom and liberation within this experience highlight not only the political and social battles fought but also the profound spiritual and psychological transformations that have occurred over centuries. While freedom may have been granted in a legal sense at various points in American history, liberation is a more holistic and ongoing process that touches on the soul, consciousness, and collective identity of African Americans.

The Chains of Slavery: The Absence of Both Freedom and Liberation

The period of chattel slavery in the United States (1619–1865) was marked by a brutal dehumanization of African Americans. Enslaved individuals were subjected to systemic control that stripped them not only of their physical freedom but also their cultural and spiritual identities. Slavery was not just about physical bo***ge but also about erasing African roots and controlling the enslaved through a combination of violence, legal codes, and ideology.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bo***ge."
Galatians 5

The loss of freedom was obvious: slaves were legally considered property and had no autonomy over their bodies, their labor, or their families. However, the deeper tragedy was the spiritual damage done by slavery. Religion was manipulated by slaveholders to justify the institution, with selective readings of the Bible being used to convince slaves that submission was their God-ordained fate.
