We're excited to welcom Zay Smith, Chicago newsman and humorist to medi.ci. His column, QT, which offers wry commentary on news headlines, was formerly featured in the Chicago Sun-Times from 95-08, and is now available at zaysmith.com. An endorsement from the late, great Roger Ebert: "Fantastic column today, as is every day. You had me laughing out loud" https://medi.ci/zaysmithqt

Humor and comment. One critic: "The Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert of print."

Wu-Tang Clan is selling only one copy of their new album for millions of dollars. Always exciting to see these new business models. Now who's going to sell their million dollar album through medi.ci?

When you consider the concept of differentiation, you might be tempted to think of it only in terms of end products for consumers: The qualities and traits that distinguish brands of cars, deodorants, and sports drinks from each other. But there’s another way to...

A little Medi.ci love out west! Thanks to for the mention on 7x7.

"Are you like me? Do you feel guilty all the time (ok, some of the time) about all the free music artists begrudgingly bestow upon the masses, for which we pay little to nothing? Well — infomercial-y-sounding sentence alert! — now there’s a way to make yourself feel better and give your favorite artists their due! Check out medi.ci — a place for fans to donate directly to their favorite artists. Giveth, then taketh.

That, or pay the price of admission to these paycheck-worthy shows..."

If we believe artists perform labor of value, we should also care about how (and whether) they get paid.

Vinny Naro makes unique album cover art, limited-edition concert posters, and other memorabilia for the entertainment industry, and he's looking to apply these fine-tuned skills towards more independent projects.

"I'm trying to raise funds to build up the catalog for my future art gallery [...] The gallery will start out online, but I will eventually will rent out a storefront and have my own boutique shop dubbed: 'The Fingerprinter', provided I find enough backing."

Ambitious and inspiring. Thanks for the mention, Vinny!

Matthew Whitt is a webcomic artist with a heart of gold. His comic "Observe to Exist" combines dark comedy with vivid imagery.

"I write and draw a webcomic based on the events that I either hallucinate or dream. It's kind of a thing, but whatever."

He also enjoys long walks on the beach.

Laura Roberts is an author/publisher of books that push buttons — that's why she calls her Southern California based micro-press "Buttontapper Press."

"From ninja novellas to cheeky haiku collections to humorous erotica, Buttontapper Press titles play with forms and refuse to bend to literary trends."

For shaking up the status quo, we salute you!

Gabrielle Peterson is creating some Richter-esque explorations of painting materials — "converting the canvas into an object" as she puts it.

"My goal is to have the medium of painting one day seen in congruence to sculpture. To a chair. To a table and lamppost and tree stump."

Several of her pieces are now being shown at Brooklyn Boulders in Somerville, and she will be having her first solo exhibition at the Uniun this August.
