Strong storytelling has enduring impact. Director Nadine Licostie recently screened 'Spinnaker,' a documentary depicting the Center for Coastal Studies' effort to free an endangered humpback whale named Spinnaker from a tangle of fishing lines, to students from Cornell University. Enrolled in Professor Annie Lewandowski's Music 1212 class, the students assisted in sorting, processing and documenting lost and abandoned fishing gear recovered from the ocean floor in beach cleanups and debris documentation; and create multimedia art for public exhibit. serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by marine life and the need for action.

Spinnaker's bravery and resilience are inspiring, and it is an honor to share her story with new audiences.

Today, we're shining the spotlight on our Director of Post Production & Technology, Jeff Ertz! Jeff describes himself as an excited, happy, and healthy individual who always looks forward to new challenges and enjoys his life, the people in it, and the work he does.

In his free time, Jeff loves playing and coaching his boys in sports, going out to dinner with his wife, and playing music with friends. Not only is he a beast behind the keys (literally), but he also throws down in the kitchen; “The Hashrito” could be coming to a bed and breakfast near you.

Professionally, Jeff is passionate about developing and exploring sound and video in new media within the broadcast, film, and commercial world. He stays motivated and creative by maintaining a positive attitude and approaching everything he works on as a new adventure.

Today, we're celebrating Rachel Lengel, one of our producers at Red Thread, whose Brooklynite spirit and tenacity add a special flavor to our team!

Outside of work, Rachel's always on the move, whether she's setting new walking records, indulging in popcorn, or exploring the globe in her trusty flip flops. Fun fact: she's sported a stylish skull-spanning scar since six months old (headband not available for sale in stores). In the future, Rachel aims to keep her nomadic adventures alive, sharing meals and stories with strangers to broaden horizons. Her secret to staying inspired includes a mix of fearlessness, organized to-do lists, and a cup of Trader Joe's mint green tea.

Sbusisiwe Myeni is a visionary leader from South Africa who co-founded the Imbeleko Foundation - , dedicated to empowering children through education and mentorship in rural KwaNyuswa. Since the foundation's inception, Sbu has helped "1,000 students reach 1,000 dreams" and built a genuine relationship with them, earning her the affectionate title of their Godmother.

Recently, the Imbeleko Academy launched a high-school blended program in collaboration with the University of Cape Town Online High School, a significant milestone in educational development. Red Thread had the honor of producing a PSA spot for CBS Cares and Girls, Inc., voiced by Gayle King, that features a team of young girls playing against the New York Giants. This spot served as a reminder that teamwork, determination, and believing in oneself can lead to success at the highest level in any field

This Black History Month, we pay tribute to Barbara Proctor, a pioneering figure in media. In the 1970s, Barbara challenged the status quo by establishing her own advertising agency, Proctor's & Gardner, despite facing skepticism and prejudice from the white men who dominated the advertising industry during the "Mad Men" era. Her determination made her the first Black woman to accomplish this milestone. Barbara's agency flourished, earning her recognition from President Ronald Reagan as "the spirit of enterprise."

Barbara's courage to defy societal norms and break through the glass ceiling is inspiring.
