Repost: I walked for The Blue Jacket Show 2020 and virtually in 2021 in order to get the word out. Men’s preventive health care is an important platform I am dedicated to. I am so grateful Frederick Anderson and Laura Miller asked me to come back to the runway and discuss a cause that I am very passionate about. The Sixth Annual Blue Jacket Fashion Show is about bringing awareness for the prevention of Prostate cancer. Every man should have his prostate checked. Too many men today are so busy running companies, making money and providing for their families that they often forget to get physicals and have their prostates checked. The PSA test (prostate specific antigen) is how you can spot potential cancer cells in its early stages. If the test comes back high, your doctor may recommend a digital re**al exam or a biopsy test. My father, Nutritionist John Mayes PHD with a Doctoral in Integrated Health and Nutrition DIM, CDN, NHA (Registered Nursing Home Administrator) is a survivor. I am so happy that we were able to find his cancer in its earliest stages. I was by his side every step of the way. My brother and I now get tested every year and we fan out and ask Black men in our community to check their Prostate. 1 in 8 Caucasian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. But, the statistics skyrocket to 1 in 7 in the Black community. Here is the problem... YOU MUST ASK YOUR DOCTOR FOR THE PSA TEST! Many people just do not know to ask! My father says, “You can help reduce the PSA level by following a healthy diet, which includes eating less meat and less unhealthy fats, eating more cooked tomatoes which is high in lycopene. Drinking more pomegranate juice, which also contains lycopene, a powerful anti-oxidant and exercise more. Moderate aerobic, yoga and meditation are all preventative measures that men should incorporate into their daily lives. Taking aspirins for heart and prostate health as prescribed by your medical doctor is optimum for a healthy life. When detected early, this is the most beatable type of cancer.” “Having a healthy Prostate is always in fashion”.
