Some reviews of MIRROR:

"if Phillip Glass was married to Suzanne Ciani and they had a son named Steve Reich, this may be Steve's sibling." -Craig Padilla

"Ambient music doesn't usually hold my interest but this one is different Its like being immersed in an ever changing kaleidoscope of sound..." David Bessell

"Repeating patterns drift in and out of phase with a distinct nod to Terry Riley, while drones and melodies slowly rise up, vie for attention, and then drift away, adding further detail to this complex, ever-evolving tapestry." Chris Meyer

"The sound is powerful and complex, distancing the listener by allowing empathy, meaning and closure; to some an image of the associated sensibility or ‘double consciousness.’" Robin James

He is my experience at the Sacred Steel Summit 2024.

The steel guitar is considered to be a “voice” and a holy sacrament to a group of related Pentecostal churches and is associated in particular with The Church of the Living God.

Some say “this music is not taught, but caught.”

Celebrating the success of the album MIRROR on BandCamp Friday! Download it today!

Here is Craig Padilla's experience, track by track, of MIRROR.

"-Ripping the Fabric of Reality is a perfect title for this track, and a great way to start the album. It shines many hints of what is lies ahead. With the variety of sounds and moments that come and go throughout this piece, it is what walking through a dream would sound like. This is all over the map!
-Bending Gravity flows along in a similar dreamlike fashion, with a variety of sounds weaving in and out of the gravity stream of consciousness, particularly as if the mind was filled with the weight of so many thoughts. This is a sublime piece of music.
-Out of Time is quite a nice hypnotic track. Big-time hints of Steve Reich come to mind on this one. As a matter of fact, if Phillip Glass was married to Suzanne Ciani and they had a son named Steve Reich, this may be Steve's sibling. I also like how the ending comes out of nowhere with a different pace. Interesting.
-Riding Waves of Light... heartedness! This is a nice happy tune with a positive glow. It's like a long drive along the freeway at dawn, only somebody else is driving, and I'm the passenger.
-Mirror Master is a cool Berlin-School track with a nice sequence that carries the dream-like variety of sounds within itself. Once again, the sounds weave in and out of the mirror/dream. They are free to stay as long as they like within the reflection, and are welcome to leave when they want. I like this one a lot.
-Roll Up the Carpet of Time is a very pleasant way to close the album. It has a nice bouncy sequence that pulses along in an uplifting light. We are left wondering if what we see and hear in the Mirror is actually our reflection, or is it an unfamiliar reality and we are only living in a dream of reflection?"

"The world is a messy, noisy, complex place. Inside this apparent chaos are multiple threads of coherence and beauty, which reveal themselves to those willing to pause, observe, absorb, and reflect. Bart Hawkins’ new album Mirror indeed mirrors life with its numerous aural threads, winking like excited fireflies surrounding you in a vibrant, unfamiliar, yet welcoming landscape. Repeating patterns drift in and out of phase with a distinct nod to Terry Riley, while drones and melodies slowly rise up, vie for attention, and then drift away, adding further detail to this complex, ever-evolving tapestry. Like life itself, Mirror may initially seem overwhelming, but if you are willing to sit quietly and allow it to swirl around you, it reveals its inner beauty, rewarding multiple listens to discover seemingly endless new threads and patterns."
