The NYLON Project

The NYLON Project The NYLON Project is an initiative to aid the homeless in NYC via celebrities, fashion & a viral campaign. To find out more, please e-mail us!

The NYLON Project was created as an initiative to aid the homeless in New York City. "Homelessness in NYC have hit record highs with a 115 percent increase over the past two decades and it's time for all of us to unite and try to make a change. This project may not be the solution, however, it's one step closer towards turning the world into a better place", says Jordana Guimaraes - founder of "Th

e NYLON Project". This initiative will be created via various steps which include a photo-shoot of 25 influencers/VIPs - thus far confirmed are supermodel Daniela Braga & Peter Madrigal of BRAVO's "Vanderpump Rules" - where they will hold up cardboard signs with "real" stories", of those who wound up living on the streets in comparison to a time in their lives where with a bad decision they could've wound up in the same situation. The celebrities will wear clothes & accessories by sponsored brands. Booklets will be created with these photos & distributed to press worldwide to create awareness via a "It Can Be You" collaborative campaign. "It can be you... It can be me.... It can be any of us! Let's stop judging and start trying to understand each other, to see how we can turn the problem into the solution". An outreach campaign will be assembled, to get celebrities/influencers on board speaking of why it's important to help & hear the homeless around the world, rather than ignore. Though celebrities and influencers are important to get messages out to the masses, it all starts with the people. Therefore, we want everyone who learns of The NYLON Project, to speak of their views on social media, using , so that it goes viral. The initial goal of this project is to give out 1,500 meals starting on December 1st, 2016 up until February 7th, 2017. Each person who receives a meal, will tell us their story of how they wound up on the streets and this will be shared via an IG page which will entice everyone who gives a meal to start sharing their stories with us and with this, creating a community of people helping people. This is how we will make this project possible:

We will host a New York Fashion Week show on February 7th, 2017, where the 25 influencers and celebrities who were part of the photo-shoot for booklet, will walk the runway side by side with the homeless who's story they shared, wearing sponsored brands. These brands will dress the celebrity as well as gift the homeless the ensemble so that they can use it once event is over, to go on a job interview and get off the streets. The intro to the runway show will be videos of VIPs speaking of their views on why "It Can Be You". Musicians, who currently perform on the streets of NYC as well as subway stations, will perform at this incredible event.

50% of the proceeds that come in via sponsorships as well as tickets to the show, will go towards purchasing/distributing the meals throughout the holidays leading up to Fashion Week as well as executing the campaign. We will also have t-shirts, hats & phone cases for sale with "The NYLON Project" logo - sponsored by CommGroup (design agency in Brazil) - as well as collaborative artwork created by a few artists (to be announced). "I'm excited to see where this goes. It starts with meals & awareness, however, the possibilities where this could lead are endless". Dutch fashion designer .timmer graduated from school and started up his own outdoor clothing line—a line he originally envisioned being high-fashion and high-priced. Everything changed when his friend’s father, who was homeless at the time, died from hypothermia. Timmer couldn’t justify continuing on with his expensive clothing line while so many people suffered and were unable to afford the basic necessities for survival. He rebranded his line to create , an organization that has helped protect thousands of people experiencing homelessness—all while upcycling and reducing waste. Braylen Brooks, founder of is one of the wonderful influencers featured in our book It Can Be You. He speaks about when he took matters into his own hands to reach his goal. “I took matters into my own hands and said to myself ‘You know what? If no one is going to give me the opportunity, I’ll give myself the opportunity.’ I think my main purpose is to inspire, empower, and encourage people who share similar interests and have been through trials and tribulations.”

How can we help?
There are many ways that you can help out the homeless population in your town. Some simple and practical ways to help are donating clothes to your local shelters, most people are actually looking for socks because they are the least donated clothing item. Another big way that you can help is by volunteering your time at shelters for community outreach.
Here our some resources:

One of our featured influencers in the book is Beatriz Adrianna from the blog Live Love Wear It. She shares in the book her decision to stop everything and give her full effort to one thing, “I felt overwhelmed and wasn’t succeeding in any of the things in which I was pursuing. This was going on for several months before I made a big decision: focus my complete attention and give one hundred percent of myself to just one thing, in order to truly grow and succeed.”

Episode #11: Jordana Guimaraes

In this episode we speak with Jordana Guimaraes, co-Founder and PR director of FASHIONNOVATION, a startup that is the fashion world’s version of TED. An intersection between the fashion industry and the technology industry.

Jordana is fearless, she calls herself a “wild-spirit”. After high-school she decided not to take the college path and started experimenting with different jobs. For each job she figured out what the rules of the game are and then reached a level of performance that got her praises. But she was bored quickly.

At the age of 23 she wanted to find a job that would “stick” and she’d be passionate about. She went to Barnes & Noble, found an encyclopedia of “all jobs” and stumbled upon PR. It resonated and so she bought and read “PR for dummies”. She tells us how from that starting point she landed a dream PR internship working with tier-1 brands, and how as soon as she understood the PR world’s basic she proceeded to opening her own PR firm. In addition, she’s a philanthropist. She’s publishing her first book this month. It’s called “It can be you” and the goal of it is to give a face to homelessness. All profits from the book will go to charity.

Jordana is a real inspiration. She provided TONs of self fulfillment tips and tips on how to turn dreams into a reality.

She says that getting the right person on the phone and then creating rapport with them is like a game. She says you can’t speak to everybody in the same way. You have to adapt their energy into yours and you have to do the research before, in order to be able to conduct an informed conversation. Then, once you get the job (or close the sale for that matter), even if you don’t know exactly how to deliver, you can learn along the way as all knowledge is out there for you to google.

It’s all about humanizing situations.

We discuss the power of persistence, the importance of not being afraid of getting turned down, how failure is inevitable, the importance of having “life cheerleaders” and much much more.
