I truly believe that every gig is an opportunity to audition for your next one.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a small bar set or your grandma’s 70th birthday party—there’s always someone in the room who knows a friend of a friend.

Word of mouth is the most powerful form of promotion, so make sure to crush every gig that comes your way. Opportunities like these are rare, so make them count!

Congress Bar opened in December 2013 in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Known for its craft cocktails and craft beer, it’s been an intimate neighborhood spot on historic Court Street for the past decade. The bar was formerly “Jim & Andy’s Produce,” as reflected in its original storefront signage and custom-designed interior wallpaper. The bartenders here are exceptional, making it one of my favorite bars to visit.

October’s been a busy month for me, and tomorrow I’m DJing my 10th French party in the past two years. Most of these gigs have come through word of mouth, so I guess I’m doing something right! And no, I don’t even speak French, but I’ve been curating a playlist of fire French tracks over the past couple of years that even I vibe to. This is the true definition of what being an open-format DJ is all about—adapting to different genres and crowds.
