Our vintage black panel amps:
🔊1964 Vibroverb
🔉1965 Fender Bassman
Both main channels offer classic Fender sounds, with the Bassman providing a punchier, compressed tone, and the Vibroverb providing a more open, lush and shimmery tone. And of course, both love Tube Screamers. The Vibroverb’s onboard reverb and “vibrato” (tremolo) add some incredible layers of dimension, and the Bassman’s cranked bass channel sounds quite ferocious when raunchy power chords are required.
Both classic, both similar, but each is undoubtedly its own animal.

*Maybe* we’re nerds, but to us this is as exciting as getting a new instrument or piece of outboard gear because of the workflow enhancements.
Thanks for making such good stuff, and thanks Marvin for all of your help.

Thank you to everyone who came to see yesterday’s Led Zeppelin tribute show! And thank you to my amazing bandmates who brought the rock, as well as the more tender musical moments. After a few years off due to the pandemic, it was great get back to what will hopefully happen annually for some time.

Thank you and for hosting us.

Happy !! Here is a recent addition to the studio’s instrument collection: a Mischief Maker Stratocaster.
This guitar has some pretty unusual features, most notably a Telecaster neck (check out the headstock) and a Blender k**b where the middle pickup's tone k**b would normally be located. With the bridge pickup engaged, the Blender k**b allows you to mix the neck pickup into the signal, giving you some sounds not typically available on a Strat.
With the pickup selector in position 1, you would have bridge + neck, giving you very Tele-esque tones. In position 2, you would have all 3 hand-wound pickups on.
With a big chunky neck and giant frets, this one is a blast to play, especially with the extra tonal options.
We’ll get a video up soon demonstrating what sounds this beast is capable of 🤘

One of the latest additions to the instrument collection: Fender Jaguar in Fiesta Red, shown introducing itself to our vintage Jazzmaster.
While these classic designs share similar DNA, each model is unique unto itself.
Both the Jaguar and Jazzmaster have an offset body design, rhythm(dark)/lead circuit architecture, bridge, and tremolo.
Notable differences: The Jazzmaster’s pickups produce a fatter, warmer tone, compared to the Jaguar’s, which are surrounded by a metal claw, helping to produce a twangier tone and lower interference. The Jazzmaster’s 3-way pickup selector functions like how a Gibson or other Fenders would. The Jaguar has on/off switches for each pickup, as well as a “strangle” switch, which cuts the mids across all the pickups. There are also some cosmetic differences between the hardware of the 2 models.
When picking up and playing, the most obvious difference is scale length. The Jazzmaster, like the Telecaster and Stratocaster, is 25.5”. The Jaguar is 24”, a spec that Fender said made the Jaguar a “faster, more comfortable guitar.” Smaller statured people may agree.
Which model would be best for your record? 🏄‍♀️

Something rarely found on a Hammond B3 these days: intact preset labels.
As you can see, the labels on these inverted keys indicate selectable presets for various orchestral instruments, with the A # and B keys serving as presets that the player can customize with the drawbars at the top of the instrument.
Each manual (keyboard) gets 2 sets of drawbars, also called A # and B, which correspond to the preset keys. These drawbars control the levels of the overtones, which in turn dramatically affects the overall tone of the organ. The drawbars for the left hand manual are on the right side and the drawbars for the right hand manual are on the left side, making it ergonomic and convenient to adjust tones while playing with the free hand.
Players typically dial in sounds that work best for the musical context they’re playing in a given moment, and will either switch between their presets, or adjust while playing, which itself can be a musical effect. Using the presets is not typical, and without the labels to refer to, it may not be obvious what the intended sound is.
Swipe to listen to a familiar melody played on the “flute” preset, and decide for yourself if it sounds like a flute 🛳

I’ve had this felt pick since 1994, so it’s a little wild for it to still be using it in 2022. Probably time for a backup, but it’s holding up well on these tracks.

The air outside may be getting dry, but the air inside our guitar cases won’t. All of our cases have packs all year round but this is the time of year when it matters most. No cracked wood and no sharp fret ends means happy guitars. If you want to keep your instrument in good shape, definitely keep them humidified.

It’s crazy how time flies, but 7 years ago, Thanksgiving 2014, we got the keys to our Long Island City location. Here’s a pic of where it started, and one of what it became.

We are thankful to all of the musical artists who have created within these walls, and for the memories we’ve made while collaborating and capturing these moments. And of course, we’re thankful that this is what we get to continue to do.

Happy Thanksgiving!
