Author Stephen Hollon Explains the "Three-Legged Stool" in Cognitive Therapy
Featured Guilford author Steven D. Hollon, coauthor of the second edition of "Cognitive Therapy of Depression," explains the notion of the "three-legged stool" in cognitive therapy, one of the major updates to the newly released edition.
Dr. Hollon explains, "Traditionally, cognitive therapy has focused on a patient’s current life problems (the first leg). Now, we have added their childhood antecedents (the second leg), and the vicissitudes of the therapeutic relationship (the third leg). Most patients, and especially those with chronic and comorbid depressions, benefit from this new modality."
