This week is Banned Books Week, and to celebrate we’re shining a spotlight on one of the most frequently banned authors on our roster, Jeannette Walls. Her moving memoir, THE GLASS CASTLE, is a contemporary classic that depicts Walls’ tumultuous upbringing. Often appearing on banned books lists due to its “disturbing material” and “profanity,” this powerful story resonates with readers everywhere.
As a recent Velshi's Banned Book Club pick, Jeannette emphasized the importance of addressing difficult subjects in literature. She reflected, “We all want what’s best for children, but I would argue that the way to protect children is not to put them in a bubble and pretend bad things don’t exist but rather to give them the tools to deal with the ugliness that life often presents us.”
Hailed as one of the world’s most gifted storytellers, Jeannette delves into essential topics such as resilience, the power of storytelling, and confronting adversity and offers audiences a unique perspective on how to navigate life’s challenges and embrace authenticity.
