She’s living in this other world but going back to who she is. She’s finding herself again, and finding herself is going back to the man that she loves, and also trying to heal her family. You see her put-together and polished, and really putting herself out there. Then you see the crack and things falling apart. But that’s how she’s getting to who she’s meant to be. As you watch the season go on, you see more and more of it.”

“I was introduced to shoes by my stylist, Andrew. He knows that I have knee problems and back problems, and I can’t wear heels. He said, ‘Wear these, you are going to be able to walk in them all day.’ As soon as I put them on, I went, ‘Oh my gosh.’ And they’re stylish.”

“I’m reading Crime Novels: American Noir of the 1950s. I’m obsessed with the genre. I’m addicted to film noir on TCM, and have been addicted ever since I saw Double Indemnity as a young kid.”

“I’ve always hated granola, and then I was given Coconola grain-free granola in a gift bag. I tried it, and I’m now obsessed. Plus, it’s got less calories.”

“Brooke Shields introduced me to . We were walking together and she said, ‘I’m going to go get a hot chocolate.’ And I said, ‘They have hot chocolate at that store?’ She goes, ‘Yes. Don’t you know?’ So I go, ‘No, Miss Brooke Shields. I don’t know, you know!’ She said, ‘I’m going to buy you one.’ Then I was in love, because dark chocolate is my favorite thing on the entire planet.”

“I purposely wanted to create my character to be a nervous wreck. Her backstory is that she was once in the system herself, so she knows how it goes. She doesn’t have any children of her own and she’s of a certain age, so she’s dedicating her life to this child. Even in her apartment everything is a bit excessive for Noah, though it’s homey at the same time. That excess is what I’d picked up on when I walked onto set. And I wanted Denise to have a knowing; because she’s older and more mature, she understands that she does not have all the answers. She doesn’t want to f**k this kid up any further, she’s so in love with this child, and she wants to give him everything she never had. I knew adults like that when I was a kid and I would pick up on their nervousness. I would pick up on that little glimmer of a tear that they were holding back when they would say hello to me; I would pick up on them holding back feelings. The people that were good were the ones that didn’t pity me, and I tried to bring that to my character. There’s no pity for this child➖there’s concern, there’s worry… which is different from pity.
