🎬 Acting Reel Tips : Trimming Down a Scene 🌟
When dealing with acting reels much of the raw footage and performance is left on the cutting floor. This dinner scene from the short film “Brothers” was originally nearly 5 minutes long - how can you possibly make a 2 minutes showreel and still keep the intensity?
The way to look at a reel is much like acting itself - you must to consider the emotional queues and beats.
In order to shorten this scene for Krista’s reel, we first pulled out all of her lines and then used dialogue that propels the narrative forward. This way, we were able to preserve her on-screen time and get to the end of the scene.
Another trick is adding a musicbed. In this case, a melody that would fit into the time period. We have a library of thousands of royalty-free tunes that can be used across all platforms. The purpose of a musicbed is to set the atmosphere so we can focus on the acting, rather than try to figure out which genre we are watching.
