I am heading to Warsaw today and then to Ukraine on Monday. I'll be shooting in about 8 cities in Ukraine for the next to weeks for my documentary "Hope in the Darkness". We are taking telescopes to give to students who have requested them because they can see so many new stars in the black outs and power outages. I am traveling with 4 Astronomers who will be showing them how to set them up and find stars and planets. We are so impressed that these brave kids still have hopes for the future after dealing with Covid followed by the unprovoked attack on their country by Russia. I'll send updates and the trip goes on.

Shooting video from a helicopter for a new possible series. I love hanging out of a helicopter and taking aerial footage. I don’t get To do it as often now that I have a drone. Thank you to Janna Jackson my talented pilot and potential series host.

We have been in preproduction on a new documentary, "Hope in the Darkness" and it just officially moved into production. We will be heading to LA later this month for a shoot and then to Ukraine in early November for 14 days of filming.
We are working with the nonprofit "Astronomers for Equity". They had received requests from students in Ukraine for telescopes. Because of darkness created by all the power outages and blackouts the students can see more stars than they ever could before. We will be traveling with three scientist as they deliver the telescopes and teach the students how to use them and find and track stars and planets in the night sky. After years of Covid these students went immediately into being attacked by Russia. We are so encouraged by their bravery and steadfast desire to learn and dream. My Co-Producer on the film "If You Tell Anyone", Norman Fried came over tonight to celebrate our new Telly Award. It's my newest addition to the trophy case. We missed our third Co-Producer as he's in LA right now but a shout out to Nathan Spiteri! Congratulations to both of my Co-Producers on a film we can all be proud of!

I spent the day on the Warner Brothers lot for the Cinegear Expo today. So much new technology and some really nice gear. It was a fun and informative day!

My newest film "If You Tell Anyone" is showing at the Angelika Film Center tomorrow night, May 2nd. Unfortunately (or fortunately) it has sold out so no seats are available. We booked the 250 seat theater but the Angelika made a mistake and put us in the 180 seat theater so we are overbooked for the show. If you have tickets come early!

"If You Tell Anyone" is a new documentary about Sexual Abuse and Trauma told through the story of Nathan Spiteri (author of Toy Cars) who was molested by a man at his local pool. He was only 8 years old when it first happened and it went on for 4 years. The trauma it inflicted on him sent him on the path of drugs, alcohol and self destruction. He was depressed and became suicidal. Luckily, a friend got him into therapy which saved his life. He is now telling his story to encourage other victims to seek help as well. There will be a Q&A with Nathan, Dr. Norman Fried and myself after the film.

We attended the showing of "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe" last night at the Palace Theater. It is a really well made beautifully shot film based on the book by the same name. Lin Manuel Miranda was one of the Exec. Producers. After the film he interviewed the two lead actors and the director about the film. It was a really fun evening with friends.

I saw a premier of a new Ukrainian feature film tonight at the Ukraine Institute of America. The film is called “Bucha” and it’s a powerful film based on a true story about the first months after Russia attacked them. We must support Ukraine in its efforts to fight off Russia’s murderous aggression.

On this day in 2009 I was on the Mall shooting the inauguration of President Obama for MSNBC. I still consider it one of the greatest honors of my career to have been there during this historic event. I had to park at NBC and we all took a private bus because there was no parking anywhere. But the bus had to drop us off on the wrong side of the Mall and we had to walk under the Mall on I-395 through the tunnel to get to the other side. The freeway was closed and it was so bizarre to be walking in the tunnel along a 6 lane highway at 6am . The thing I remember most about those days is that it was freezing cold especially when I was on the tower cam.

I had such high hopes for our country on that day. Little did I know of the disaster that would happen 8 years later.🥲

The Cincinnati Enquirer published a story about the mishandling of the Majestic Showboat. I was interviewed and provided some stills I shot with my drone. Dean Love Films has been developing a documentary about the showboats that traveled the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The Majestic is the last original one of those showboats. It’s sad to see it being neglected.

The Showboat Majestic has had four homes since the city of Cincinnati sold it in 2019. It's future is murky.

This is the 2023 Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday display. It's a little different this year and is a tribute to Christian Dior. My Annual Holidays Windows of NYC will be out tomorrow, Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

This is the Holiday display on the front of Saks on 5th Avenue. This year it is a tribute Christian Dior and all of the windows tell the story of his life.

I had the pleasure of doing an interview with Alan Arkin for the TLC ‘Great Books” series when I worked for Walter Cronkite’s company, Cronkite Ward. We interviewed him for the “Catch-22” episode. Alan was witty and a very nice person as well as a very talented actor. RIP Alan Arkin! ❤️

One was "Native Son", part of the Great Book series which was Executive Produced by Walter Cronkite and narrated by Donald Sutherland. It is about the book, Native Son, written by Richard Wright. It is a powerful book that really tells the story of life in Chicago for a black man in the 1940's. If you haven't read it, you should. I'm sure it's banned in school libraries in Florida.
The other program was the FBI File episode called "The True Story of Mississippi Burning". We worked with the FBI and the agents who ended up getting a conviction on the case. We recreated many scenes including a K*K cross burning, But since we were shooting on a farm in Virginia, I printed up flyers and had a PA take it to the nearby neighbors telling them what we were doing. I think my biggest fear is that we'd have more people in K*K robes than the extras we hired.

I won't even begin to think I know what it's like to live in this country as a black person, but I did my best to tell these powerful stories. If we don't study history, good and bad, we are doomed to repeat it.

On a separate note, I really enjoy doing period pieces. It feels like you've traveled back in time when you're on set.

Walter Cronkite's Birthday

Walter Cronkite would be 101 years old today. This is a clip from "The Cronkite Commentaries" which I produced. We did shows on topics like; Climate Change and Water, China, Primary Hopscotch, Representative Democracy etc. He was a man of science and knew Climate Change was real. This series was the last thing Walter did on air. It has been one of the highlights of my career to have worked for him and later with him. He was an amazing man and I can only imagine what he'd think of 45. Happy Birthday old friend, America misses you!

TBT- I can't believe that next month it will be 7 years ago that we lost Walter Cronkite. He's been on my mind since his son Chip posted that they are thinking of doing a feature film about Walter during the Vietnam years. As much as he was frustrated with the news media in 2009, can you imagine how he'd feel about the 2016 race, the coverage and Trump actually having a shot at the presidency? RIP Walter! This clip is from when NY1 interviewed me outside the church before attending the funeral. I had the pleasure of working for Walter and then later working with him to do a series of commentaries which turned out to be his last.
