L’11 settembre 2001 è una data che rimarrà indelebile nella memoria collettiva. In quel giorno, gli Stati Uniti furono vittime di uno degli attacchi terroristici più devastanti della storia. Quattro aerei di linea furono dirottati da membri dell’organizzazione terroristica Al-Qaeda. Due di questi aerei colpirono le Torri Gemelle del World Trade Center a New York, causando il loro crollo poche ore dopo. Un terzo aereo colpì il Pentagono a Washington D.C., mentre il quarto, il volo United 93, si schiantò in un campo in Pennsylvania dopo che i passeggeri tentarono di riprendere il controllo del velivolo.

Gli attacchi provocarono la morte di quasi 3.000 persone, cambiando per sempre il corso della politica globale. Negli anni successivi, gli Stati Uniti avviarono la cosiddetta “Guerra al Terrore”, che incluse l’invasione dell’Afghanistan e, successivamente, dell’Iraq. Oltre alle conseguenze politiche, l’11 settembre ha lasciato un segno profondo nella cultura e nella psicologia della nazione, con monumenti e commemorazioni eretti in onore delle vittime.

A New York, il National September 11 Memorial & Museum, situato presso il sito delle ex Torri Gemelle, è diventato un luogo di ricordo e riflessione, onorando coloro che persero la vita in quella tragica giornata.

I become an American citizen 🇺🇸 @nicolasbites It’s been a 10 years journey . I Came to the USA with just a dream and some serious determination. Left my family back in tears, wondering where I’d end up. Everyone kept saying it was tough to make it here in the USA with the lifestyle and immigration policies, but I showed them all they were wrong. The American dream is still alive if you put in the work. I remember those early mornings and late nights, always tired but never giving up.I wanted to make a better life for myself and my family, despite being miles apart.
