Power Station Studios were built in 1977, employing a revolutionary design which emphasizes sight-lines between musicians and the natural sound of acoustic instruments and voices. Nile Rodgers produced the first session, and the studios continue to be home to the world’s most creative recording artists. rclay, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, John Mayer and Esperanza Spalding have all made amazing recordings here, and the facility remains a center of the New York City music industry. Originally a Con Edison power relay station, the building spent time as the television studio where “Let’s Make A Deal” with Monty Hall was produced. Power Station became Avatar Studios in 1996, and in September of 2017, the name “Power Station” returned, by special arrangement with BerkleeNYC. Berklee is dedicated to preserving and building on the Power Station legacy by reinvigorating the studios and transforming them into the world’s premier large-format recording destination.
