I am an Assistant Principal for the Department of Education in New York City. I have been with the DOE for fifteen years and oversaw three detention centers in the Bronx (alternative to detention, non-secure detention center and a secure detention center.) I am s proud that this position allowed me to integrate all my qualifications and develop action plans with other educators that resulted in im
proving student achievement for those students that schools had given up on. I have written a book that Identifies the important factors that may contribute to delinquency and everyone needs to understand why youths continue to go in and out of detention centers. It is critical that all school administrators, parents, teachers, and all constituents understand that we are losing our youth to a lifetime of crime. I believe the only way we can help our youth is to speak directly to everyone involved in the life of our students. I believe my book will help everyone understand how to help all students succeed regardless of where they come from. The book is titled “The Revolving Door.” and if you look closer you will see a youth stuck in the middle of “The Revolving Door.” Our kids continue to go in and out of detention centers. They leave only to return in a couple of weeks, month or even a year later. My mission is to educate our public schools on what they can do or look for in order to help our students stay in school. Let’s do this together “JAM THE REVOLVING DOOR.”
My mission is to help those children who are put into detention centers and then are released stay out of detention. You can reach me at [email protected], [email protected] or at my website http://www.drzulmaortizschumeyer.com.
