For over a year we have wondered what the motive was for the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. There were plenty of possibilities. Pending divorce? Anger? Pending boat accident lawsuit?

But as usual, it comes down to the money. Prosecutors filed a motion today finally revealing why they believe Alex Murdaugh killed his wife and son.

The filings claim that Murdaugh committed the murders to buy himself some time and sympathy.

You see, that very day his law firm confronted him about $792,000 in missing legal fees. They were demanding answers. Murdaugh was saved by the bell when his phone rang and he was informed that his father was dying.

Alex was about to be caught. His law firm was asking questions, and in just three days he was supposed to turn over financial records in the Mallory Beach lawsuit.

What does a backwoods southern lawyer do when about to be caught? Well, apparently he kills his family. For sympathy.

It really isn't hard to believe. A few months later he hired someone to shoot at him - which has long been believed to be a scheme for, you guessed it, sympathy.

It seems Alex Murdaugh really was never taught how to take any sort of accountability. But we knew that.

It may have happened in your city, or your state. A quiet morning interrupted by a rash of active shooter rumors, schools rushed by police, and parents in a frenzy.

Since September these calls have been making the rounds, state by state, in a methodical pattern that has terrorized schools, parents, and I am sure law enforcement. These calls aren't just threats. Sometimes they are calls that a shooting is actively taking place. When Harris County's dispatchers got a call in September they were told 10 people had been shot. They were given a room number and details about multiple suspects. Law Enforcement, including U.S. Marshalls, descended on the scene only to find that nothing of the sort was taking place.

In North Carolina, the caller spoke to dispatchers for nearly five minutes, and the line was open for an hour. The caller had an accent, similar to the caller in Houston.

And that has been the experience of law enforcement agencies nationwide. It's always one state at a time, and there is usually at least one call of an active scene. Last week at least eight schools in North Carolina were targeted. Alabama was hit the week before. As this article is being written, New Hampshire is experiencing their turn.

At first, each jurisdiction said they would look into the calls and promised to take this issue seriously. But in recent weeks federal authorities have finally started to, very quietly, admit to this being a nationwide coordinated effort. When Georgia was targeted at the end of November, Governor Kemp said the FBI was investigating these "acts of domestic terrorism".

The FBI has since been mentioned more and more with each new incident.

But who is behind these calls? The FBI so far hasn't given any insight. A few local authorities have speculated that this is part of a TikTok trend, but that doesn't seem likely. So far we do not know who is making these calls and why.

During last weeks response in North Carolina one officer noted that students were jumping the fence to get to their parents. As some officers worked to regain control of the scene, others worked to clear the school room by room. These are no easy or quick tasks. It can take hours to clear a scene, not to mention the resources being used on what turns out to be a hoax.

So far, no word on when we might get an update to this investigation.

Casey Anthony is GUILTY.

I never thought I'd see the day where people believed Casey Anthony.

But here we are. It wasn't really that long ago was it? I remember being in Florida, and the world stopped when the verdict came in. Everyone waited on pins and needles for the verdict. For justice.

But justice for Caylee never came. And even now it seems farther away than ever. I made it through maybe 30 minutes of Casey Anthony's new documentary. I have managed to see clips here and there of the episodes I didn't bother watching.

There is sometimes a phenomenon that happens in the True Crime Community...where people forget that more than one thing can be true at the same time. And in the case of Casey Anthony...MULTIPLE things are true at the same time. Of course, without hard evidence this is my opinion, but common sense has to rule sometimes.

1. The prosecution sucked. They relied on junk science, emotion, and dropped the ball too many times when it came to hard evidence and a simple case.

2. Casey Anthony was likely abused. Now, I don't really buy the sexual abuse claims only because Casey has lied so much. But anyone with eyes can see that her household was a mess and there likely was at the very minimum emotional abuse and control.

3. Casey Anthony killed her daughter. How she did it, why she did it, whether it was intentional (CoughYesCough) we may never know for sure. But Casey Anthony killed her daughter.

In Casey's new documentary she claims she took a nap with Caylee, and the rest was all at the hands of her father. She woke up, he was holding her, she was all wet and unconscious, he told her he would take care of it. She then left to spend time with her boyfriend, never thinking Caylee was dead. She listened to him when he told her to pretend everything was normal.

I am a mother. The sight of my unconscious wet child could only bring one thought to my mind: They are dead. It is our worst fear. It is what would destroy me as a parent. I would be desperate to get them help. SOMEONE SAVE MY BABY! PLEASE HELP!

And yet...Casey partied. She got a tattoo. She entered contests. She slept with her boyfriend. And she lied about Caylee every day.

When Casey's mother, who has her own issues, had enough of being lied to she called the police. It was Casey's car that smelled like a dead body. It was Casey who searched "Foolproof suffocation" on the last day her daughter was seen alive, before visiting her myspace page (Even though the prosecution failed to find this search before trial).

Casey lied about the nanny for years before Caylee died. She lied about where she worked for years before Caylee died. Casey, like some others in her family, is a master manipulator. And it's working for a lot of people.

It seems lately everyone wants a conspiracy. Everyone wants to see things differently than the status quo. But Caylee deserves justice. Justice that never once has her mother asked for.

Do I believe Casey was proven guilty in court? No. The prosecution failed to do that clearly. But experience and common sense leaves no room for doubt for me. Casey is guilty.

Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer said bones found Friday near the Ohio River have been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Louisville for testing.

He said the bones were found near where the mouth of the Green River empties into the Ohio.

The area is near where Heather Teague, a missing Madisonville, Kentucky woman, was last seen and possibly abducted in 1995. Sarah Teague said Wednesday she is hopeful the development may provide some answers in her daughter's case.

Heather Teague disappeared Aug. 26, 1995, while sunbathing on a Henderson County beach across the Ohio River from Newburgh, Indiana. A Newburgh man told police he was looking across the river at the beach through a telescope and saw Heather being taken away by a man with a gun.

Farmer would not say if they are linked to any missing persons cases or confirm if they are human.

"You can read between the lines that they were sent to the medical examiner," he said.

If the bones need additional testing, Farmer said they would be sent to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Sarah Teague said the bones were found by a couple who were in the area arrowhead and mushroom hunting. She said she is acquainted with the woman, who informed her about the discovery Monday.

"She said they were just there in the field. They took pictures of it and then called the sheriff's department," Sarah Teague said. "She said it appeared to be most of a skeleton."

The skull contained a tooth which Sarah Teague said she is hopeful can be matched to her daughter's dental records to identify her and which may even yield DNA.

Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer said bones found near the Ohio River have been sent for testing at the Kentucky medical examiner's office.

Milwaukee police confirm to TMJ4 News that they have made several arrests in connection to the homicide of Mallery Muenzenberger, the mother of missing 3-year-old Major Harris. But police say they have not made any arrests regarding Harris, nor have they found the child.

Muenzenberger, 24, was found dead in a home in the 2600 block of North 37th on Thursday, Oct. 14. She died from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Harris remains missing, more than four days after a statewide AMBER Alert was issued for him.

MPD's investigation later identified Jaheem Clark as a person of interest. Milwaukee Police approached a house on the 5400 block of North 31st Street on Sunday that was believed to be housing Clark. Shortly after arriving there, officers heard at least two gunshots from inside the house.

Officers entered the house and located Clark's body. He had died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, police said. No officers fired their weapons while on the scene, according to MPD.

Police said on Tuesday that Clark is now considered a suspect in Muenzenberger's death.

On Monday, police found the vehicle identified in the AMBER Alert near a laundromat in the area of North Sherman Boulevard and West Villard Avenue, which is not far from Havenwoods State Forest .

Police continued that they believe Harris and Muenzenberger arrived in Milwaukee around Oct. 9, based on interviews and evidence found at the North 37th address.

The investigation took longer than expected because Muenzenberger is not from Milwaukee and her identity had to be verified, police said.

Milwaukee police as well as local, state and federal agencies conducted searches for Harris throughout the state and the City of Milwaukee.

Police said Harris was last seen on Oct. 9 in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee police are asking the public if anyone had contact with Clark from Oct. 9 through Oct. 17 or information on Harris' whereabouts.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 933-4444 or to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or P3 Tips App.

Police are searching for two gunmen who ambushed and fatally shot a young couple sitting in their car outside a Detroit gas station.

Benson Lindsey, 22, and his girlfriend Marshae Nash were ambushed in a cold-blooded shooting around 8:40 p.m. Monday at a Marathon gas station on Detroit’s west side, according to authorities.

Candace Lindsey, the mother of Benson Lindsey, says her only child was the light of her life.

“They took everything I had. My son was the only baby God allowed me to have, and I don’t have him no more,” she said through tears.

Police released video of the ambush, with cameras capturing two gunmen coming at both sides of Benson Lindsey’s car and firing multiple shots.

The couple had their 9-month-old baby in the car with them. Nash was holding him in her arms when she was shot, but the little boy was not hurt.

Police say the couple had their second child one month ago: a daughter who was born prematurely and is still in the hospital.

“I can’t imagine. I don’t know what is the cause of this or what made people feel that it was worth his life and hers,” Candace Lindsey said.

Detroit homicide detectives are fanning out across the city’s west side, trying to find the people responsible. They hope the release of the video footage will generate tips.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call Detroit Police.

Every weekend, Marsha Lyle's family will drive to Jacksonville from South Florida.

It is a four-hour drive, and they are holding on to hope she will come back home. They check homeless shelters and hospitals. To Sherneth Wright, Lyle's sister, it's been an emotional rollercoaster.

"In spite of everything we're thanking God and praying for her," Wright said.

The search to find Wright's beloved sister gets harder every day. Her family said she was driving from Seale, Alabama. Elien Thompson-Allen, Lyle's mother, believes she was on her way to visit her in Clewiston, Florida.

Lyle's family said the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office made her case cold. They said mentioned how the police didn't have enough leads to work with.

"It was frustrating and disappointing," Thompson-Allen said. "Very very disappointing."

Lyle's mother said her daughter was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder, a combination of Bipolar and Schizophrenia. Lyle, whose 43rd birthday was Monday, was last seen at a Walgreens in the Riverside area.

"We don't know how she is. If she's alive, we don't know or even if she passed," Wright said. "We still want some closure."

To Wright, her sister is known to be kind-hearted and loving. She described her as the kind of person who would give the shirt off her back. Knowing Lyle has a strong connection with the Lord, gives the family a little bit of comfort.

"She would always tell me 'mother, why you guys so worried about me? I'm safe in the arms of Jesus,'" Thompson-Allen said.

The family of Marsha Lyle says it's not too late to share any leads to find her

Two newly hired physical education teachers at a Florida elementary school were arrested after the shooting of a man whose apartment they entered thinking it belonged to someone else following a night of drinking.

According to an arrest affidavit, one of the teachers mistakenly climbed into bed with the man, his wife and their baby, and the other teacher went to the bathroom before the male occupant of the house escorted them out.

The arrest report says teacher Darius Cohen got into a scuffle with the male occupant while outside. The report says Cohen chased him and fired four shots, striking him once in the back.

Cohen, 26, is facing a charge of attempted felony murder. His fellow teacher, Akkua Hallback, 27, is facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

The husband of a 22-year-old New Hampshire woman who was reported missing has told police he killed his wife in a small bus they had converted into a living and traveling space.

Vermont State Police say Joseph Ferlazzo confessed to detectives that he had killed his wife, Emily Ferlazzo, Saturday morning. Police say they seized the bus in St. Albans and a search turned up human remains and other evidence that corroborated Joseph Ferlazzo’s account.

An autopsy is scheduled Wednesday to confirm the identity of the remains and determine the cause and manner of death. Joseph Ferlazzo is scheduled to be arraigned on a first-degree murder charge Wednesday morning in Vermont Superior Court in Burlington.

Emily Ferlazzo, 22, was last seen Saturday near a vacation rental in Bolton, where the couple were vacationing. She was reported missing by her family Monday night.

According to troopers, Joseph Ferlazzo, 41 told his wife’s family in New Hampshire that the couple were arguing as they drove on the Bolton Valley Access Road at about 1 p.m. Saturday. He said Emily Ferlazzo left the vehicle, a camper van, at one point and began walking along U.S. Route 2.

The husband of a woman missing since January has been arrested and accused in her death, authorities said Tuesday.

Larry Millete, 40, was charged with murder and possession of a semiautomatic rifle prohibited under California's assault weapons ban, San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan announced during an afternoon news conference.

An attorney for Millete did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.

May "Maya" Millete, also 40 and the mother of the couple's three school-age children, was reported missing from her home in Eastlake, a community in the city of Chula Vista, minutes from the U.S.-Mexico border.

Early in the investigation, Larry Millete said he had nothing to do with his wife's disappearance. Some of her relatives have said they didn't believe he would harm her.

Maya Millete's sister, Maricris Drouaillet, and Drouaillet's husband, Richard, have kept pressure on Chula Vista police detectives over the months, holding media events and organizing search parties.

"They rallied around her family and helped keep May’s disappearance in the spotlight," Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy said at Tuesday's news conference.

Kennedy said investigators served 67 search warrants, conducted 87 interviews, reviewed 130 tips and spent thousands of hours investigating the case. The FBI and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service assisted, she said.

Maya Millete was a civilian defense contractor at Naval Base San Diego. Her body has not been recovered.

Her husband was named a person of interest in the case in July.

The San Diego County District Attorney said Maya Millete's last phone call was to a divorce attorney.

10/20/2021

Western Australia police say the zipper on the tent in which Cleo Smith was sleeping when she went missing was up so high there was no way the four-year-old could have opened it herself.

On the fifth day of the search for the missing child, Insp Jon Munday also said there was “nothing to indicate” the account given to police by the girl’s parents was anything but “accurate and truthful”.

Munday said police were “alarmed” and concerned for Cleo’s safety because the zippered entry to the tent was open when her disappearance was discovered.

“The positioning of that zipper for the flap is one of the circumstances that has caused us to have grave concerns for Cleo’s safety,” he said on Wednesday.

“That tent has been thoroughly examined by our forensic team and I believe it has been seized and I would imagine that would make its way down to Perth at some point.”

Munday said the family were Carnarvon locals and he understood they had set up their tent “in the same vicinity as people they knew”.

No witnesses have reported seeing Cleo at the heavily-populated campsite but police are comfortable based on “technological evidence” she was there with her parents and younger sister from Friday night.

“When we are satisfied from a land search point of view ... that Cleo is not here, certainly it becomes more possible that that nightmare scenario [that she was abducted] is the one that we have to face,” Munday said.

Cleo’s mother, Ellie Smith, on Tuesday made a desperate appeal for public information, saying her daughter would never wander off on her own.

Drones and SES volunteers are continuing to patrol the area after a temporary suspension of the search due to rough weather on Tuesday.

Detectives were also pursuing reports a car had been heard speeding from the popular Blowholes site, near Carnarvon, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Munday said investigators weren’t “taking anything off the table”, but nothing had been located in the search area that had been of interest to the team, and there remained no suspects in relation to the girl’s disappearance.

Four square kilometres from the last known position of Cleo had been covered, as police carried out fresh searches of shacks near the family’s campsite.

“Following the rough weather yesterday, we made the decision this morning that we’d revisit the marine environment for searching,” Munday said.

“The water out past the breakers is quite rough, so … we’ve done some drone work in relation to the marine environment.”

Authorities confirmed they have found the remains of a 26-year old woman reported missing out of Las Vegas nearly a year ago.

Henderson Police responded to a report of skeletal remains found near Black Mountain on Monday, Sept. 6, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. Her family tells News 3 a climber found them in a remote area and says dental records identified them as those of Jawaher Hejji.

“When they found her body I kept on telling myself it’s not real, it’s not her," said her sister Rowda. "A piece of us is gone forever."

Hejji's family reported her missing on Dec. 25 after not seeing or hearing from her since Dec. 22.

LVMPD previously said her car was found at Shaded Canyon Drive south of Horizon Ridge Parkway and surveillance video showed her walking alone on the Amargosa Trail near the base of Black Mountain on Dec. 23.

Police say the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Instead of closure, her family says the discovery brings more questions than answers.

"I don’t know what happened to my sister," said younger sister Mariam. "I don’t know why she was there. Did somebody hurt her? What happened? We don’t know.”

Her family says her disappearance has always made little sense to them. They say Jawaher didn't really hike, didn't frequent the area of Black Mountain, and had plans that evening.

They also found the detail police gave about her phone and keys left in her car alarming and out of character.

"It doesn’t make sense," said Rowda.

After her disappearance, several searches were conducted in the area to find Jawaher. Her family tells News 3 they even offered to pay for a company to do another search before that was overruled by police.

All the searches came up empty-handed.

"How come they found her in the exact same area we were searching," said Marium. "We got a Red Rock Search and Rescue search, we got three drones, we had three kinds of hiking groups climbers, how come she wasn’t seen there?”

"We searched everywhere and she was never found, so it doesn’t all add up," said Rowda.

They say their sister and daughter was a kind person who had dreams of getting her real estate license, becoming a lawyer, and traveling. They say she adored her family and was very close to her mom and siblings.

"She always made sure we had everything we need," said Mariam.

Now her family says they've been in anguish with the stress of her disappearance and the discovery of her bones.

They say her grandmother now has vision problems from crying so much, and her mom has trouble sleeping.

Her mother--who requested we not film her face--says she came to the U.S. through asylum to protect her children and keep them safe. Now--the loss of her daughter is overwhelming.

"I bring my kids here to the United States just to protect them—not to lose them," she said

She argues the case could have been handled differently from the beginning.

"Why did they not take this case as serious [sic] as other cases," she said. "Why did they stop investigate her case after 3 months? Why do they only now find her after 10 months?"

News 3 reached out repeatedly over this past week to Metro for an interview to address some of these questions. Instead, we were sent a press release confirming the discovery of her remains.

But now her family vows they will never give up until they know what happened.
